About the Item

Rare Thonet bentwood rocking chaise lounge chair with cane seat. The design of the rocking chaise model no. 7500 is attributed to August Thonet. Initially it was made without armrests, but from 1876 onwards, with them. The rocking chair was only produced in relatively small numbers - apparently the total number of rocking chairs no. 7500 produced only amounted to 8000. This explains why they are some of the most sought after collector’s pieces today and are featured in museums like MoMA. Our bent and turned beechwood lounger features an adjustable backrest and high braided back and seat. Manufactured around 1880 by Gebrüder Thonet in Vienna, Austria. Marked Thonet under the seat. Literature: Bent Wood and Metal Furniture: 1850-1946: page 232.
