About the Item

Striking and sculptural, this rare set includes the UP 2000 sofa and the UP1 lounge chair, both designed by Italian master Gaetano Pesce and produced in Italy circa 1970. Part of the iconic "Serie UP" collection for C&B Italia (now B&B Italia), these pieces exemplify Pesce’s avant-garde approach, bold forms, soft polyurethane foam structure, and a seamless blend of design and political commentary. The UP 2000 sofa echoes the silhouette of the celebrated UP5 model, with its voluptuous, anthropomorphic form. The UP1 armchair, designed as a smaller and more compact lounge version, shares the same distinctive biomorphic curves, offering comfort and visual impact. Both pieces have been newly reupholstered in high-quality dark blue stretch jersey fabric, faithful to the original specifications. A key figure of Italian Radical Design, his work, spanning furniture, architecture, and art, has been widely exhibited and is held in major museum collections worldwide, including MoMA, the V&A, and the Centre Pompidou.
