Large Sideboard Roche Bobois 20 th century , France
Located in PÉZENAS, FR
magnificent row stamped Roche Bobois from the years 1990/2000, opening on 4 superb doors covered with a 3D process of geometric shape which can make us think of the artist Vasarely the work on the doors is incredible, almost psychadelic with nuances depending on where you look at it its base is triangular with a white steel column at its center reminiscent of an airplane wing 1950 A FAMILY HISTORY Roche Bobois is the story of two families that nothing predestined to meet: the Roches and the Chouchans. In 1950, Jacques Roche bought the former Alexandre Dumas theater on rue de Lyon and had two stores built there. Philippe and François, his two sons, joined the brand and together defined the company's development strategy. They embarked on the distribution of the best specialists in French contemporary furniture, strongly inspired by the Bauhaus, such as Minvielle, Steiner or Airbome, but also in the edition of projects by renowned designers such as Pierre Paulin or Marc Berthier. At that time, the Chouchans sold their furniture in Paris...

Vintage French Louis XVI Style Buffet with Marble Top in an Ebonized Finish
Located in Chicago, IL
Vintage French Louis XVI style Buffet, that our Old Plank restoration department completely stripped down to the bare mahogany and after a few days of hand-sanding, started the laborious task of applying an old school Ebonized finish to the wood. All of the brass components to our Louis XVI Ebonized Buffet were removed, cleaned and reattached after the Ebonizing process. The unusual color marble was carefully cleaned, however, we prefer not sending them out for polishing, since that changes the Ebonized Buffet from looking vintage, to looking like something new. All of the drawers work as they should and the keys for the original locks are still with the French Louis Style Buffet...

Vintage, New and Antique Buffets

For get-togethers or large celebratory meals in your already sumptuous dining area, a charming and durable vintage, new or antique buffet, with its decorative and practical features, can truly elevate the experience.

Although often used as a synonym for “sideboard,” a buffet technically possesses a tiered or shelved superstructure for displaying decorative kitchenware. The term derives from buffet à deux corps, a piece that is seen mostly in French Provincial furniture. And while the terms “case pieces” and “case goods” may cause even the most decor-obsessed to stumble, these furnishings — which include buffets, credenzas, cupboards and other must-have items — have been a vital part of the home for centuries.

Buffets are the ideal place to keep serveware and larger serving pieces that you’d rather have tucked away when not in use. They’re typically long and low and can be the perfect option for serving food as well as storing your porcelain and making your space tidy and organized. Feel free to dress up your buffet between meals with decorative objects or stacks of art books.

A buffet can be positioned in your living room, entryway or hall if space allows. But if you intend to permanently pair your case piece with your dining room table, when shopping for your vintage buffet you’ll definitely want to think about your dining room’s space restrictions. Allow for at least two feet of space between your buffet and your table so that guests can easily move to and fro as needed, and a buffet that is convenient for serving food should be as high as a kitchen counter if possible.

If you’re looking for inspiration for your home bar or dining area, find Art Deco buffets, mid-century modern buffets, Hollywood Regency buffets and other varieties on 1stDibs today.
