This is a totally functional two-door cupboard. It is created from hot rolled steel and found steel. The legs are made from salvaged pipe. The panels on the door fronts and sides are made from salvaged pieces of steel with the original paint and texture making this modern Industrial aesthetic a model of sustainable design. The pattern is inspired by the Quilts of Gee's Bend Alabama. Prominent colors in this piece are tones of blue, black, gray and blue, gray and rust. There are two fixed shelves inside the cabinet. After one year at Bard College, Jim transferred to the School of the Art Institute in Chicago (SAIC) where he graduated in 1988 with a BFA. His skillful interpretation of the Shaker design is a result of intense research and field study of Shaker furniture, architecture, culture and history. After over two decades of dedicated work, he has mastered the minimalism of the Shaker technique and created his own unique visual vernacular. The quilts of Gee's Bend have become a monumental influence taking this artist's work to new levels of unique interpretation and artistry. His selection of aged steel results in a patina directly related to that of aged wood while his colored strips beautifully mimic worn cloth. Each piece of furniture is masterfully made and intended for daily use. Jim Rose’s steel furniture is featured every year at SOFA Chicago for the past 25 years. Very good quality and good condition. Made and designed by Baisch, a German company founded in 1907 originally producing motoring suitcases for Daimler- Benz and Pullman Limosines. By 1949 Baisch was producing furniture for the dental practices. Between the 1970 - 1980 became the decade of innovation for Baisch as well as moving into other areas such as medical furniture.

St. Charles was one of the earliest brands of steel cabinetry in the United States, dating back to 1935, when St. Charles bought Janes & Kirtland, maker of the “White House Line” steel. Steel kitchens were first developed in the second half of the 1920s and exclusive to extremely high-end (often exhibition) homes in the pre-WWII era. These early (pre-war) cabinets were quite streamlined and "deco" in their appearance. Typically white, ice gray or gentle cream color, they were customized to each home and considered the 'modern' and very "American" choice for the discerning client. The result was Ziqqurat:a cabinet made up of different boxes that can be piled up to create everchanging forms. This system, constructive in all respects, can be used to create arrangements of three different sizes depending on the space available.The project’s source of inspiration, ancient sumerian pyramids, is no random choice: it is such a strong theme that it even gave its name to the cabinet. In 2020 Driade, the aesthetic laboratory par excellence, proposed an expansion of the Ziqqurat collection in the iconic patterns: romantic in the floral version with tassels or pop in the white and black geometric version with black handle.
