About the Item

Framed color lithograph on wove paper titled "Open Hand" by Charles Edouard Jeanneret Le Corbusier. Pencil signed Le Corbusier. Edition 9/150. "L-C" Dated 1955 in image. Charles-Édouard Jeanneret (6 October 1887 – 27 August 1965), known as Le Corbusier was a Swiss-French architect, designer, painter, urban planner and writer, who was one of the pioneers of what is now regarded as modern architecture. He was born in Switzerland and acquired French nationality by naturalization on 19 September 1930. His career spanned five decades, in which he designed buildings in Europe, Japan, India, as well as North and South America The Open Hand Monument is a symbolic structure designed by the architect Le Corbusier in the 1950s but not constructed until the 1980s in Chandigarh, India. It is the emblem and symbol of the Government of Chandigarh and symbolizes "the hand to give and the hand to take; peace and prosperity, and the unity of mankind". Measures: 23.75" wide by 31.75" high with a depth of 0.75" framed. An appraisal for the piece was done in the early 80's (picture attached) and the price has been adjusted for appreciation and inflation over the past 40 years.
