About cufflinks
Cufflinks were introduced in 17th century in England. Prior to that, shirt cuffs were held together by ties, ribbons and strings. Fashion changed, and stitched buttonholes were developed. To fasten the cuffs, tailors used ornamental buttons with an attached chain. These buttons became popular with the upper classes. Jewelers started to make gold and silver buttons with gemstones and other adornments. This is how cufflinks were invented.
A mass production of cufflinks began in the 19th century. Following the Victorian era fashion standards, they design was opulent, with such embellishments as gemstones and extravagant details.
Cufflinks popularity diminished a century after, due to a new design of the shirt cuffs. They came with attached buttons, and there was no need to use cufflinks. But later the French cuff made its way to the market, and cufflinks went back to fashion. Today, comparing to their predecessor they are rather practical and easy to wear.
Gold cufflinks and gemstone cufflinks have been a symbol of wealth and reputation. It’s a popular gift for a groom or a graduated student. Women’s cufflinks are broadly worn as stylish accessories as well. The most popular jewelry designers keep making them today for different occasions and styles.

Bulgari
Greek silversmith Sotirios Voulgaris arrived in Rome in 1881 and set up his own shop there in 1884, calling it Bulgari, an Italianization of his last name (in the brand's logo, it's styled BVLGARI, using the classical Latin alphabet in a nod to ancient Roman culture). In 1905, he opened the company’s flagship boutique on Rome’s Via dei Condotti. Since then, Bulgari has looked to Rome as a source of reference for its fanciful and decidedly romantic designs for necklaces, bracelets, earrings and other accessories.
Although the iconic jewelry house found success with its silverwork and Art Deco designs, popular through the 1920s, Bulgari’s signature style — bold, often using yellow gold embellished with big colorful gemstones — began to emerge when Sotirios’s sons inherited the business, in 1932.
The brand truly hit its stride in the dolce vita era of the 1950s and ’60s, when the founder’s grandsons Paolo, Gianni and Nicola Bulgari decisively departed from demure traditional styles to develop the house’s exuberant multi-gem looks, attracting celebrity collectors like Elizabeth Taylor.
In the 1940s, Bulgari debuted perhaps its most famous design, the Serpenti bracelet watch. The piece’s snakelike coils were made possible by the tubogas jewelry technique, which links a flexible series of thin horizontal bands. Both the sleek, modern tubogas construction and the sinuous snake motif continue to be synonymous with the Bulgari brand.

About Angela Cummings brand
Angela Cummings is one of the most prominent fine jewelry designers and women jewelry designers. Many of her famous designs were inspired by nature and by three-dimensional art of sculpture. Even though she grew up in the USA, Angela Cummings received her art and jewelry education in Europe. She studied painting in Italy and gemology and goldsmith in Germany.
When she came back to the United States late in 1960s, she was right away hired by Tiffany & Co. and became Tiffany’s in-house designer. In 1974, she was the first woman who had a named collection, “Angela Cummings Exclusively for Tiffany & Co.” Soon after that Tiffany created named collections by Elsa Peretti and Paloma Picasso.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Angela Cummings created her distinctive inlaid designs with semiprecious stones such as coral, jade, lapis lazuli, jasper and organic mother of pearl that she became famous for. Nowadays, these designs are highly sought after and very collectable.
