Rare Linocut Poster "Vallavris Exhibition 1954" by Pablo Picasso
By Pablo Picasso
Located in San Diego, CA
Highly collectible and rare linocut poster "Vallavris Exhibition 1954" by Pablo Picasso, circa 1954.. The print is in good vintage and measures 24" x 30". It is presented in a simple black wood frame and is signed in the print. Super cool and hard to find Picasso poster! #2912 Starting in the 1950s, Picasso worked with the linocut printer Hidalgo Arnéra to produce posters for ceramic exhibitions and bullfights. The printer described their working method as such: “Picasso worked at night; in the morning, Marcel the chauffeur brought what he had completed to the print shop with notes added by Jacqueline Roque. I pulled the proofs and returned them to [his home] La Californie at exactly 1:30. This regular rhythm of working continued for eight years, every day, except Saturday and Sunday.” This idiosyncratic procedure speaks to the collaborative effort of these printmaking ventures, which included his partner, his printer, and his chauffeur Title: Vallauris Exhibition 1954 Artist: Pablo Picasso Printer: Printed by Hidalgo Arnéra Publisher: Published by Hidalgo Arnéra Date: 1954 Medium: Linoleum cut ABOUT THE ARTIST Born in 1881, Pablo Ruiz y Picasso followed in his father’s footsteps as an academically trained painter and studied art at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in his native Spain. Picasso traveled for the first time to Paris at age 19, establishing a studio there in 1904. He soon began a relationship with Fernande Olivier...

By Isaac Maimon 1
Located in San Diego, CA
Massive acrylic on canvas original painting "Le Couer Libre" by internationally reknowned artist Isaac Maimon, circa 1992. The painting is very bright and colorful featuring three young stylish woman and measures an impressive 87" x 67.5" x 4" (the canvas is 78.75" x. 59"); it is presented in its original 5" thick gold painted wood frame. It is signed, "Maimon" in the lower right corner; back of canvas is marked with dimensions and "MAI435". Gorgeous focal point piece of art! The painting was purchased for $19,800 from Atlas Galleries in Chicago, IL in 1992. The retail price of a new Maimon painting of this size is well over $30,000. #2522 This painting was selected to be included in the book: "Isaac Maimon - Catalogue Raisonne" and a copy of the signed book is included with the purchase. This is a spectacular Maimon original painting! Maimon has a distinct and recognizable style of painting which captures the energy of Parisian street scenes, with masterful lines and inspired strokes of color. Isaac Maimon was born in Israel in 1951 and has devoted the majority of his life pursuing a career in the arts. He attended the Avni Institute of Fine Art in Tel Aviv, Israel's most prestigious academy for the arts, where his initial interest in the Paris School of Art...

Querelle A27 'White' Screen Print by Andy Warhol
By Andy Warhol
Located in San Diego, CA
Querelle A27 (white) screen print by Andy Warhol, circa 1982. The print is in very good vintage condition and measures 27.5"W x 39.25"H. Very impressive piece in person, sorry about the glare in the photos. #2631 This rare print of two young men in a rather provocative pose, Andy Warhol used a photograph taken in preparation of his poster for Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s film Querelle. In 1982, Warhol was commissioned by the German film director Rainer Fassbinder, to design a poster for his adaptation of Jean Genet’s classic novel, ‘Querelle’. The story of a sailor’s journey into the sexual underworld of a French port appealed to Warhol’s cinematic sensibilities and could easily have been one of his own productions (he had started making films in the 1960s). This design is based on a photograph by Warhol of two young men with bare shoulders. It is characteristic of his work in the 1980s, incorporating elements of both hand-drawn and photographic screen printing. He focuses attention on the suggestively licking tongue by splashing it with a vibrant red. The film is based on Jean Genet’s scandalous novel Querelle de Brest, written in 1947 and published only six years later. It is not difficult to imagine that both Fassbinder and Warhol where fascinated by Genet’s violent and explicitly homoerotic story of the sailor, opium dealer and murderer Georges Querelle. The film’s notoriety was further heightened by Fassbinder’s death of drug overdose and its posthumous release in 1982. Warhol’s screen prints...

"Surf Culture" Vintage "Big Wednesday" Movie Poster Signed by John Severson
By John Severson Productions
Located in San Diego, CA
A very nice "Surf Culture" vintage "Big Wednesday" movie poster signed by surf industry pioneer and "Surfer Magazine" founder John Severson circa 1990s. The piece is in great condition with vibrant colors and measures 12"W x 18"H; it is presented in a black metal frame and has a picture of Severson with the original owner at the signing on the back. Severson was the producer of this 1961 surfer cult classic. I believe this piece is a reprint and not an original poster from 1961. Nevertheless, it would make a "must have" addition to any surf memorabilia collector! #3179 John Severson, well known as the creator of the internationally acclaimed SURFER Magazine, grew up surfing off the beaches of Southern California. He began his career as a painter, selling his first works while finishing his Master’s Degree at Long Beach State College. In the ’50s he became the first person to create a large body of art relating to the Hawaii-California surf culture. Since then he has provided a steady output of oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, and prints. In 1958, John used his art, photography, and surfing passion to create a popular surf movie series. His films included SURF SAFARI, SURF FEVER, BIG WEDNESDAY, and PACIFIC VIBRATIONS. Severson's smash hits posters from the ’50s and ’60s, remain collector favorites. As a surfer, Severson was known for riding big waves, and for his innovative performance style in big surf. In 1961, he won the Peru International Surfing Championships and was a finalist in the U.S. and Hawaiian Championships. With the founding of SURFER, John’s art focused on the magazine and graphics. His painting “Surf Bebop” was selected as the outstanding cover painting of 1963 by Communication Arts. Surfer During the ’60s, he authored two surf books...
