Mahalaxmi, Acrylic on Canvas, Red, Yellow by Contemporary Artist "In Stock"
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Anil Kumar Yadav - Mahalaxmi - 36 x 48 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas , 2014 ( UNFRAMED ALL IN DOOR DELIVERED ) STYLE : Anil Kumar Yadav is an Artist from Kolkata who was born in 1984 a village in Uttar Pradesh. He grew up among villagers with modest lives and the village culture. The Rangolis at the village festival and the local potters’ fine works of art inspired him greatly towards art as a hobby and potential career from early childhood. His father was then posted to Kolkata so their family relocated to the city. Once the capital of India, with its rich cultural heritage and character immediately caught my attention. He started painting for the first time in the city. Since the central theme to his paintings is related to present day society, his works appear photographic or naturalistic. The religious ghats of Varanasi, Haridwar and other antique places attracted him for their cultural heritage characterised by the holy saints, antique architectures, old idol sculptures and mysticism, spirituality. So he portrayed the simplicity of the architectural doors, temples, sculptures and the beautiful narrow streets and ‘galis’ which holds beauty that can not be described in words. He always prefers a highly realistic approach in his paintings for whatever he sees in his surroundings. He started to represent paintings in a form whose expression manifests a step ahead of photography. He has always tried to reach to a horizon where photography cannot reach and make a statement what is called hyperrealism. '"Composition with Polka Dot Mug, Silver Russian Cup, and Lemons"
Located in Wellesley, MA
Olga Antonova’s subject is compositions of extraordinarily elegant, beautiful and whimsical cups, plates, teapots, vases and dishes, but there is something playful about these paintings. Stacked teacups are also amusing, having a kind of jaunty and upbeat personality of their own. Polka dots are as endearing to adults as to children, and everyone responds to the bling and sparkle of gold and silver while marveling at Antonova’s seemingly effortless ability to paint these radiant details. This composition of rich patterns and intricate formal detail is the perfect complement to the more minimal shapes and brilliant yellow of the lemons, and Antonova's compositions are a wonderful twist on the classic traditions of still life painting. This work is unframed. Antonova's paintings can be installed individually, they also work extremely well in groupings as part of a series. Commissions incorporating one’s own personal collection of family heirlooms is also an option. Olga Antonova "Composition with White/Polka Dot Mug, Silver Russian Cup...

Silver Lining VI
Located in Fairfield, CT
Karen has always been interested through readings and travel in ancient cultures and their customs, dance, music, poetry, and visual arts and other forms of creative expression. Her travels took her to American Indian sites in many areas of the United States, the Mayan ruins in Central America, Cambodia, Greece, Egypt, Morocco, Spain, France, Italy, Turkey, the British Isles, the Caribbean, and Canada. Using these travels as an impetus for further exploration as she became more fascinated with each culture that she studied, the influences and mark making techniques of the cultures were absorbed into her psyche and in her artwork. She decided to focus on these ideas and finished an MFA degree in painting at Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford. In this program, she studied with N.Y. artist, Susan Wilmarth Rabineau, wife of the deceased minimalist sculptor, Christopher Wilmarth...

Shop Abstract, Landscape, Figurative and Still-Life Paintings

Painting is an art form that has spanned innumerable cultures, with artists using the medium to tell stories, explore and communicate ideas and express themselves. To bring abstract, landscape and still-life paintings into your home is to celebrate and share in the long tradition of this discipline.

When we look at paintings, particularly those that originated in the past, we learn about history, other cultures and countries of the world. Like every other work of art, paintings — whether they are contemporary creations or works that were made during the 19th century — can often help us clearly see and understand the world around us in a meaningful and interesting way.

Cave walls were the canvases for what were arguably the world’s first landscape paintings, which depict natural scenery through art. Portrait paintings and drawings, which, along with sculpture, were how someone’s appearance was recorded prior to the advent of photography, are at least as old as Ancient Egypt. In the Netherlands, landscapes were a major theme for painters as early as the 1500s. Later, artists in Greece, Rome and elsewhere created vast wall paintings to decorate stately homes, churches and tombs. Today, creating a wall of art is a wonderful way to enhance your space, showcase beautiful pieces and tie an interior design together.

No matter your preference, whether you favor Post-Impressionist paintings, animal paintings, Surrealism, Pop art or another movement or specific period, arranging art on a blank wall allows you to evoke emotions in a room while also showing off your tastes and interests. A symmetrical wall arrangement may comprise a grid of four to six pieces or, for an odd number of works, a horizontal row. Asymmetrical arrangements, which may be small clusters of art or large, salon-style gallery walls, have a more collected and eclectic feel. Download the 1stDibs app, which includes a handy “View on Wall” feature that allows you to see how a particular artwork will look on a particular wall, and read about how to arrange wall art. And if you’re searching for the perfect palette for your interior design project, what better place to turn than to the art world’s masters of color?

On 1stDibs, you’ll find an expansive collection of paintings and other fine art for your home or office. Browse abstract paintings, portrait paintings, paintings by popular artists and more today.
