Large Modernist Italian Oil Painting Surrealist Abstract Figures
Located in Surfside, FL
Marco Cingolani was born in Como in 1961 and moved to Milan at a very young age, in 1978. He began to frequent the underground creative environment, where art was mixed with fashion and punk music. In those years a new artistic sensibility was being formalized in Milan, whose roots no longer sank in the history of art and in the citation but practiced the critical manipulation of reality and its communication through the mass media. The image was taken out of context, subtracted from the use of common sense, radically distorted, almost mocked. The work of Marco Cingolani, from the beginning, has always tried to cancel the regulatory power of media images, subjecting them to the radical care of the artist, certain that art offers a decisive point of view for the interpretation of the world. In this context the interviews of the Interviews were born, where celebrities for their privacy were submerged by the microphones and the famous series dedicated to the attack on the Pope and to the tragic story of Aldo Moro. After having participated in numerous group exhibitions including An emerging scene (1991, Museo Pecci, Prato) and Two or three things that I know of them (1998, PAC, Milan), he is dedicated to major anthological exhibitions at prestigious public institutions such as Palazzo Strozzi in Florence and Promoter of Fine Arts in Turin. In November 2006 he took part in the collective exhibition "Senza famiglia", in the Palace of the Promoter of Fine Arts in Turin. In 2007 Cingolani received a further consecration: the Galleria Emilio Mazzoli hosts the exhibition entitled "What color are they?" in which the pictorial reflections on the color of Power and its disguises are presented. The art of Cingolani has always been fascinated by the passage from news to history and vice versa; also in this case the UN blue helmets, the red urn containing the electoral ballots, the multicolored segments of the Wall Street charts, the military uniforms and the party flags are contextualized in highly symbolic scenarios. In 2009 a return to the origins for Marco Cingolani, often the author of works expressly inspired by the religious theme. In particular, for this exhibition entitled " Percorsi della Fede", the artist focused his attention on the Marian apparitions that have marked the last two centuries: Lourdes and Fatima . In the same year an exhibition in Lucca at the National Museum of Villa Guinigi, joins him to some of the leading Italian artists of the last two generations; by the universally recognized and celebrated masters, present in the main international museums such as Mimmo Paladino, Sandro Chia, Salvo, passing through some of the protagonists of the 52nd Venice Biennale as Gian Marco Montesano, Daniele Galliano, Nicola Bolla, Bertozzi & Casoni who exhibited in 2009 in contemporary at the Lucca exhibition and at the Italian Pavilion of the Venetian event, to get to the young artists of the last generation already present in important national and international artistic events. Giacinto di Pietrantonio invites him the following year, 2010 to PAC, Pavilion of contemporary art in Milan, for the collective exhibition "Hybrid", alongside Jan Fabre, Gilbert & George, Charles Avery, Damien Hirst, Piotr Uklanski, Patrick Tuttofuoco and other great ones on the international scene. 2012 is the year of "Il Belpaese dell'arte", at Gamec di Bergamo, always curated by Pietrantonio and Maria Cristina Rodeschini, in the company of Elmgreen...

Chaco
Located in Fairlawn, OH
Chaco Canvas, fabric, pigment and collage elements, 1985-1995 Signed lower left corner in red paint Title and signed in pencil on the verso on the top of the stretcher Condition: Excellent Canvas size: 18 x 18 inches Provenance: Estate of the Artist By descent Chaco is a Native American culture of Ancestral Puebloan peoples, thriving in New Mexico between 850 CE and 1250 CE. Some of the motifs in this work was inspired by Chaco Canyon wall art. This mixed media work was created after the artist moved from New York to Santa Fe in 1985. It combines many Southwestern and Native American motifs. This is one of a small group of similar works combing collage and mixed media. (See photo of native pictographs) that inspired this work. Virginia Dehn From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Virginia Dehn Virginia Dehn in her studio in Santa Fe Virginia Dehn (née Engleman) (October 26, 1922 – July 28, 2005) was an American painter and printmaker. Her work was known for its interpretation of natural themes in almost abstract forms. She exhibited in shows and galleries throughout the U.S. Her paintings are included in many public collections. Life Dehn was born in Nevada, Missouri on October 26, 1922.] Raised in Hamden, Connecticut, she studied at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri before moving to New York City. She met the artist Adolf Dehn while working at the Art Students League. They married in November 1947. The two artists worked side by side for many years, part of a group of artists who influenced the history of 20th century American art. Their Chelsea brownstone was a place where artists, writers, and intellectuals often gathered. Early career Virginia Dehn studied art at Stephens College in Missouri before continuing her art education at the Traphagen School of Design, and, later, the Art Students League, both located in New York City. In the mid-1940s while working at the Associated American Artists gallery, she met lithographer and watercolorist Adolf Dehn. Adolf was older than Virginia, and he already enjoyed a successful career as an artist. The two were married in 1947 in a private ceremony at Virginia's parents house in Wallingford, Connecticut. Virginia and Adolf Dehn The Dehns lived in a Chelsea brownstone on West 21st Street where they worked side by side. They often hosted gatherings of other influential artists and intellectuals of the 20th century. Among their closest friends were sculptor Federico Castellón and his wife Hilda; writer Sidney Alexander and his wife Frances; artists Sally and Milton Avery; Ferol and Bill Smith, also an artist; and Lily and Georges Schreiber, an artist and writer. Bob Steed and his wife Gittel, an anthropologist, were also good friends of the Dehns. According to friend Gretchen Marple Pracht, "Virginia was a glamorous and sophisticated hostess who welcomed visitors to their home and always invited a diverse crowd of guests..." Despite their active social life, the two were disciplined artists, working at their easels nearly daily and taking Saturdays to visit galleries and view new work. The Dehns made annual trips to France to work on lithographs at the Atelier Desjobert in Paris. Virginia used a bamboo pen to draw directly on the stone for her lithographs, which often depicted trees or still lifes. The Dehns' other travels included visits to Key West, Colorado, Mexico, and countries such as Greece, Haiti, Afghanistan, and India. Dehn's style of art differend greatly from that of her husband, though the two sometimes exhibited together. A friend of the couple remarked, "Adolf paints landscapes; Virginia paints inscapes." Virginia Dehn generally painted an interior vision based on her feelings for a subject, rather than a literal rendition of it.] Many of her paintings consist of several layers, with earlier layers showing through. She found inspiration in the Abstract Expressionism movement that dominated the New York and Paris art scenes in the 1950s. Some of her favorite artists included Adolf Gottileb, Rothko, William Baziotes, Pomodoro, and Antonio Tapies. Dehn most often worked with bold, vibrant colors in large formats. Her subjects were not literal, but intuitive. She learned new techniques of lithography from her husband Adolf, and did her own prints. Texture was very important to her in her work. Her art was influenced by a variety of sources. In the late 1960s she came across a book that included photographs of organic patterns of life as revealed under a microscope. These images inspired her to change the direction of some of her paintings. Other influences on Dehn's art came from ancient and traditional arts of various cultures throughout the world, including Persian miniatures, illuminated manuscripts, Dutch still life painting, Asian art, ancient Egyptian artifacts...

abstract modern expressionist in Green and Purple
Located in Greenwich, CT
A striking and lively work by Roth that would be an exciting addition to any interior and is of high market value. Great frame of high quality - modernist flat panel frame with exceptional 24 karat silvered leafing. Large scale work by a highly collected American abstractionist. Born in Brockway, Pennsylvania in 1927 Jack Roth began his studies in chemistry at Pennsylvania State University in 1943 and, though his tenure there was interrupted by service in World War II, he would go on to earn a Bachelors degree in Chemistry, a Masters in Fine Arts, and a PhD in mathematics. At the California School of Fine Arts he studies under Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Richard Diebenkorn, David Park and Elmer Bischoff, mentors who would soon become colleagues. Painting from a studio in New York City’s lower East Side, Roth attracted the attention of James Johnson Sweeney, Director of the Guggenheim Museum of Art, who selected Roth for the museum’s traveling exhibition Younger American Painters, a multi-venue exhibition which included work by Baziotes, Diebenkorn, Gottlieb, Guston, Kline, de Kooning, Motherwell, Pollock among others. In 1963 Museum of Modern Art curators Dorothy Miller and William Lieberman recommended that the periodical Art in America name Roth the new talent graphic artist and had themselves purchased several works for the museum’s permanent collection. He was then selected for a national traveling exhibition at the University of Kentucky, Graphics 63, which was circulated by the Smithsonian Institution. That same year he was included in a New Acquisitions exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art. From 1963 to 1966 Roth taught at the University of Southern Florida in Tampa before moving to Montclair, New Jersey, where he was worked as chairman of the Mathematics department at Upsala College and concurrently as a mathematics professor and paintings professor at Ramapo College in 1971 where he was given a large studio, space enough to work with larger canvases developing as an Abstract Expressionist Color field painter. In 1978 the acclaimed gallery, Knoedler & Co. in New York City began their representation of Jack Roth’s work. At this time Knoedler & Co. represented Alexander Calder, Adolf Gottlieb...

large Russian GLASNOST Moscow, Post Soviet Avant Garde Painting George Pusenkoff
By George Pusenkoff
Located in Surfside, FL
GEORGE PUSENKOFF (RUSSIAN Born 1953), "New Life" 1988, mixed media (paint, ribbon, Metallic foil) on canvas, 160 x 200 cm (63 x 78 3/4 in.), signed and titled verso in Cyrillic, and dated on verso, George Pusenkoff, Russian painter and installation artist, spent most of his formative years in Moscow. In his early career, Puskenoff worked predominantly with acrylic, rendering vibrant forms at various stages of abstraction, though he gave them titles that anchored them in specific narrative contexts, often referencing historical (and art-historical) subject matter, as in Kidnapping of Europe (1988) and Bronzino, Ciccolina and Yves Klein (1992). Pusenkoff painted his first digital border in 1996, simulating the 8bit look of the first computerized windows. He continued to experiment with the visual language of the computer screen, at times using just the browser window bar as an abstracted geometrical form. He invokes famous icons of modern art such as Kazimir Malevich’s Black Square, Josef Albers’ Homage to the Square or Piet Mondrian’s reduced geometric paintings and transfers them into a new aesthetic. In 1996, Pusenkoff painted his version of Andy Warhol’s take on the iconic Renaissance Da Vinci...

Abstract Mixed Media Painting. Oil on Silver Lame Screen Fabric
By Izhar Patkin
Located in Surfside, FL
Internationally celebrated, Israel-born artist Izhar Patkin has lived in the United States since 1977, first coming to prominence in the mid-1980s with his iconic Black Paintings, an inventive visual adaptation of Jean Genet's play The Blacks: A Clown Show. As a painter and sculptor, Patkin works in a narrative form, often drawing upon historical and cultural material to make complex visual metaphors. He imaginatively uses materials to achieve novel effects. For an exhibition in 1994 at Holly Solomon Gallery in New York City Patkin included six paintings depicting man’s expulsion from the primal garden. In his works on paper exploring the history of the Mendelssohn family, a Jewish family in Berlin around 1769 well-known for their cultural and artistic contributions, Patkin developed a trademark technique of stenciling, cutting, weaving, folding, and bending the paper. Patkin's major mid-career museum survey "The Wandering Veil," was shown at MASS MoCA in North Adams, the Tel Aviv Museum, and The Open Museum in Tefen, Ireland. His work has been included in exhibitions at Centre Pompidou, The Stedelijk Museum, MoMA PS1, Kustverein Stuttgart, among others. His work was also featured in the 1990 Venice Biennale and the 1987 Whitney Biennial. Israeli Contemporary Abstract Geometric Painted Pierced Sculpture Zigi Ben Haim

Zigi Ben-Haim, Metal sculpture Hand signed and dated Zigi Ben-Haim, 1998 Untitled, patinated aluminum or steel, Dimensions: 6"h x 2"w x 2"d This listing is for 1. I have 2 similar ones available. Zigi Ben-Haim (born 1945 in Baghdad, Iraq) is an Iraqi-American-Israeli painter, collage artist and sculptor who lives and works in New York City and Israel. Ben-Haim unveiled his sculpture, Treasure the Green, in SoHo on Broadway. The project was sponsored by the SoHo Broadway Initiative and the New York Department of Transportation's Art Program. The sculpture is considered to be the first sculpture to receive permission to be installed on a bus bulb on Broadway. The sculpture was made to "emphasize the importance of nature in our lives," and stands as a reminder of "the importance of reconnecting with the pure nature of the green." The sculpture uses the symbol of the leaf, which has been a major icon of Ben-Haim's work for the past 30 years. It symbolizes nature and it is a metaphoric way of emphasizing nature and the surrounding environment. He is of the first generation of Israeli artists to develop large international followings like Yaacov Agam, Menashe Kadishman and Avigdor Arikha. Ben-Haim has received numerous grants and awards, including from Pollock-Krasner Foundation, National Endowments for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Emily Harvey Foundation Venice, Muestra Int. de Obra Grafica (Spain), and the Ministry of Culture in Israel. His works are included and exhibited in numerous public and private collections around the world, including the Guggenheim Museum in N.Y.C., the Jewish Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Israel Museum, and the Tel-Aviv Museum. His work often incorporates unusual materials from his journeys, among them vintage posters and printed antique paper, obscured and layered in saturated pigments on a canvas faintly scored with irregular grids. Kelly’s paintings have been likened to palimpsests and his method described as one of building “meticulously on inhabited ground, layering materials, documents, and signs, covering them, wiping out their beauty, nearly, but allowing something of the labor and their languages to persist.” Kelly worked as a commercial photographer for Polaroid in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and completed residencies at The MacDowell Colony and The Karolyi Foundation, Vence, France, before devoting himself entirely to painting in 1982. His work has been the subject of more than forty-five solo shows at venues in North America and Europe, including Spazio Bianco/AR Contemporary Art, Milan, Italy; Leslie Feely Fine Art, New York; and The John Berggruen Gallery, San Francisco, California. He has participated in more than one hundred group shows in the United States and abroad. including the Projects Inaugural Exhibition at Bentley Gallery Featuring works by Jim Dine...
