It is a very expressionist full-face, close-up portrait of a young African American man. The very contrasted lighting makes it very powerful and very sculptural.
Jean-Luc Fievet is best known for his black and white photographs portraying people and everyday street life. His work is marked by both an expressionistic approach for the close-up portraits, as well as a documentary freshness for the street scenes portraying the every-day life of different urban realities.
Jean-Luc’s journey into photography began by recording intimate moments of his family and the families of close friends. When he moved to Paris he discovered a new world that he adopted immediately, the city. His work then led him to New York, where he settled permanently. He states: “Photography for me is a constant exploration of powerful emotions, of sensuality, of the reality around me and the dreams within.”

Tao Ruspoli (born 7 November 1975) is an Italian-American filmmaker, photographer, and musician.
Background
He is the second son of occasional actor and aristocrat Prince Alessandro Ruspoli, 9th Prince of Cerveteri by Austrian-American actress Debra Berger. Tao was born in Bangkok, Thailand and raised in Rome and Los Angeles. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy.
Career
Moviemaker magazine singled out Ruspoli as one of the 10 Young Filmmakers To Watch in its spring 2008 issue. His feature narrative debut, Fix, was one of 10 feature films to screen in competition at the 2008 Slamdance Film Festival and soon afterward at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival where Ruspoli was awarded the Heineken Red Star Award for "most innovative and progressive filmmaker." Fix also won the Festival Award for Best Film at the 2008 Brooklyn Film Festival, Vail Film Festival and the 2008 Twin Rivers Media Festival, as well as other prizes at several international festivals. His most well-known documentary is Just Say Know, a personal discussion of his family's drug addiction. His other films include Flamenco: A Personal Journey, a feature length documentary about the flamenco way of life as it is lived by Gypsies in the south of Spain. He has directed a number of other short documentaries, including El Cable (also about Flamenco), and This Film Needs No Title: A Portrait of Raymond Smullyan (a portrait of the renowned logician, mathematician and concert pianist Raymond Smullyan). Tao founded LAFCO in 2000. The Los Angeles Filmmakers Cooperative, is a bohemian collective of filmmakers and musicians who work out of a converted school bus. Through LAFCO, Tao has produced several films and helped dozens of filmmakers to make their first films and discover the wonders of digital media. His producing credits include the feature film Camjackers, which he also acted in and co-edited. Camjackers won the best editing award at the 44th Ann Arbor Film Festival. Scout Tufankjian is an Armenian-American photojournalist and author based in Brooklyn, New York. She is well known for her photos of American President Barack Obama during his campaign leading up to his presidency. She is also known for her photojournalism work on the Armenian diaspora.
She was born in Boston, Massachusetts to an Armenian-American father, Allan, a lawyer, and an Irish-American mother, Betty. She grew up in the south shore towns of Whitman and Scituate, both in Massachusetts. As a child she was separated from the Armenian community in Massachusetts. Her knowledge of the her Armenian heritage came from reading magazines and newspapers that she found at her grandparents home. She started shooting photographs in Northern Ireland at age 18. She attended and earned a B.A. in Political Science and Government from Yale University in 2000. She speaks English and Arabic.
From 2006 to 2008 she covered Senator Barack Obama's campaign for President of the United States, and was the only independent journalist to follow him from the run up to his announcing his candidacy through his victory on election night. Tufankjian took more than 12,000 photographs throughout the campaign. She released a book featuring a selection of the photographs titled Yes We Can: Barack Obama's History-Making Presidential Campaign in December 2008, which sold out its initial 55,000 copy run a month before it was released. In 2010 she went to cover the Haiti Earthquake and its aftermath. From 2011 to 2012 Tufankjian went to Egypt to photograph The Egyptian Revolution. From this time she has Photos categorized as The Egyptian Revaluation, The Detainees, Along the Barricades, Endgame, The Egyptian Elections and Egypt's Salafi Community. In August 2012, Tufankjian took a photo of Michelle Obama and President Barack Obama hugging each other. The photo was taken in Dubuque, IA in Aug15th. Instead of focusing on the Obamas as political figures, Tufankjian focused on them as a couple. The Obama campaign staff sent this picture out on the official Obama Facebook and Twitter accounts the night of the election, 6 Nov. 2012. This picture became the most liked photo on Facebook and most retweeted tweet in history.
In 2015 Tufankjian published in commemoration of the Centennial of the Armenian genocide, There is only the Earth: Images for Armenian Diaspora. Tufankjian took 6 years and traveled to 5 different continents gathering stories and photos of the Arminian people who were killed and displaced from their homes by the Turkish Ottoman government between 1915 and 1923. Tufankjian traveled to Ethiopia, Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Argentina, France, United States, Hong Kong, and Canada in search of Armenian communities, photographing Armenian lives around the world. In showing how the Armenian people survived Tufankjian's photos capture everyday life, the from religious to the romantic to the familial.

Prior to the development of photography, which eventually replaced portrait paintings as a quicker and more efficient way of capturing a person’s essence, the subject of a portrait had to sit for hours until the painter had finished. In 1839, chemist and Philadelphia-based photographer Robert Cornelius didn’t have to wait very long for his portrait. In a matter of minutes, he captured what many believe to be the first portrait photograph. Landscape photography, nude photography and portrait photography are very popular in today's modern interiors. A portrait can reveal a lot about the person in it. It can also add a narrative touch to your decor. You’ll often find that photographs of loved ones work well as decorative touches. A portrait of a family member or dear friend can help turn a house into a home, warming any space by evoking fond memories.
While family portraits can stir emotion, portraits of celebrities and important historical figures can also add a rich dynamic to your space. Portraits of famous musicians or intriguing actors hung in your dining room or home bar shot by Gered Mankowitz or Annie Leibovitz might inspire deep conversation over meals or drinks. Douglas Kirkland is also famous for his celebrity portraits. His photojournalism made him much sought after by Hollywood studios to document the filming of movies. Other artists like Elliott Erwitt stand out by turning portraiture into a playful art form. Before graduating from high school in Hollywood, Erwitt had already begun to teach himself to take pictures, inspired by the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson. In image after image, Erwitt captured what photographers call “the moment” with rapier wit and penetrating humanity.
Portrait photography can be incredibly expressive, setting the tone and mood for a room. And there are different ways of incorporating portrait photography into your interior decor. If you’re thinking about adding color photography to a bedroom or living room, the colors of the portraits can become part of the room’s palette, while portraits shot in black and white won’t disrupt an existing color scheme.
