Artist: Jim Dine
Artist: Howard Hodgkin
Dutch Hearts
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Jim Dine was one of the key artists that defined American Pop Art in the 1960s. Like Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol, Dine appropriated quintessential American images and icons. He used ubiquitous and familiar forms, like tools, food, and stylized clothing, as the basis for bold and colorful compositions inspired by Dada assemblage, Abstract Expressionism, and collage techniques. The "Heart" is the most celebrated icon in Dine's oeuvre. He uses its motif to explore pattern, color, and texture in both two-dimensions and sculpture. This is a classic and iconic example of Jim Dine's hearts from his most sought-after period. Questions about this piece? Contact us. "Dutch Hearts...

Danish exhibition poster for "Photographs by Jim Dine" (hand signed by Jim Dine)
Located in New York, NY
JIM DINE This is How I Remember Now (Hand Signed), 2008 Offset Lithograph Poster for exhibition of photographs by Jim Dine 32 × 24 inches Signed boldly in white marker by Jim Dine on the front Unframed Published by: Det Kongelige Bibliotek, Denmark Provenance: Jim Dine personally signed it for the present owner in 2012 at a special poetry reading that the artist gave at the Dia Art Foundation. Extremely rare when hand signed! This poster was produced in conjunction with a 2008 German exhibition of Jim Dine's photographs. Jim Dine personally signed it for the present owner in 2012 at a poetry reading that the artist gave at the Dia Art Foundation, so provenance is direct and impeccable. The text on the poster reads "This Is How I Remember Now Portraits", with a portrait of the artist juxtaposed in the background - and is perhaps as a commentary on the elusiveness of memory in life, art and photography. The poster is accompanied by a copy of the flyer publicizing the event where Jim Dine signed...

The Pincers - Etching by Jim Dine - 1973
Located in Roma, IT
The Pincers is an original artwork realized by Jim Dine in 1973. Hand-signed in pencil on the lower left margin, dated, numbered edition of 49/75 prints. Good conditions, except for some cuts on the whitish margins of the frame, which do not affect the artwork. Impressive artwork represented through complex simplicity, the well-defined performance of aesthetic visual codes, neat and delicate creation of a hard object "pincers". Jim Dine (Cincinnati, Ohio, 1935) is an American artist who rejected any formal association with Pop Art, but who is still commonly considered an important exponent of this art movement. He became famous for his " happenings ", chaotic art performances originally invented together with other important artists, such as Claes Oldenburg and Allan Kaprow...

A Furnished Room Howard Hodgkin, colorful abstract red green interior scene
Located in New York, NY
Abstract red, green and grey interior scene with lines, shapes and hand painted brushstroke texture. Colorful large scale work ideal for display in minimalist, modern and contemporary spaces. While British pop artists such as David Hockney and Patrick Caulfield numbered amongst Howard Hodgkin's circle of friends, Hodgkin's work is painterly, expressionist, and abstract. Paper 21.25 x 27.25 in. / 54 x 69 cm Softground etching and aquatint (from two plates) with hand coloring in watercolor (green and orange). Signed by the artist and dated 77 lower right in pencil; numbered lower left in pencil. This print was proofed by Daniel Levy and printed and hand-colored by Ken Farley at Claes Oldenburg’s studio in New York, which Petersburg Press was using at the time. 1977 heralded a breakthrough in Hodgkin’s prints showing an increase in emotional content and intensity. They are more fluid and lush due to an increased looseness of handling. They show a richness and a surface texture previously lacking – mainly due to the application of gouache or watercolor by hand but also to the more tonal techniques of aquatint and soft-ground etching with its chalk-like lines. This print amongst others of the period was prompted by a visit to Tulsa, Oklahoma and represents an interior scene. Catalogue Reference: Elizabeth Knowles...

Fine Art Prints for Sale — Animal Prints, Abstract Prints, Nude Prints and Other Prints

Decorating with fine art prints — whether they’re figurative prints, abstract prints or another variety — has always been a practical way of bringing a space to life as well as bringing works by an artist you love into your home.

Pursued in the 1960s and ’70s, largely by Pop artists drawn to its associations with mass production, advertising, packaging and seriality, as well as those challenging the primacy of the Abstract Expressionist brushstroke, printmaking was embraced in the 1980s by painters and conceptual artists ranging from David Salle and Elizabeth Murray to Adrian Piper and Sherrie Levine.

Printmaking is the transfer of an image from one surface to another. An artist takes a material like stone, metal, wood or wax, carves, incises, draws or otherwise marks it with an image, inks or paints it and then transfers the image to a piece of paper or other material.

Fine art prints are frequently confused with their more commercial counterparts. After all, our closest connection to the printed image is through mass-produced newspapers, magazines and books, and many people don’t realize that even though prints are editions, they start with an original image created by an artist with the intent of reproducing it in a small batch. Fine art prints are created in strictly limited editions — 20 or 30 or maybe 50 — and are always based on an image created specifically to be made into an edition.

Many people think of revered Dutch artist Rembrandt as a painter but may not know that he was a printmaker as well. His prints have been preserved in time along with the work of other celebrated printmakers such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí and Andy Warhol. These fine art prints are still highly sought after by collectors.

“It’s another tool in the artist’s toolbox, just like painting or sculpture or anything else that an artist uses in the service of mark making or expressing him- or herself,” says International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA) vice president Betsy Senior, of New York’s Betsy Senior Fine Art, Inc.

Because artist’s editions tend to be more affordable and available than his or her unique works, they’re more accessible and can be a great opportunity to bring a variety of colors, textures and shapes into a space.

For tight corners, select small fine art prints as opposed to the oversized bold piece you’ll hang as a focal point in the dining area. But be careful not to choose something that is too big for your space. And feel free to lean into it if need be — not every work needs picture-hanging hooks. Leaning a larger fine art print against the wall behind a bookcase can add a stylish installation-type dynamic to your living room. (Read more about how to arrange wall art here.)
