Reclining Figure
Located in Washington, DC
Sculpture by Brazilian-born artist Elizabeth Freire. B&W photo is of Ms. Freire with renowned sculptor Etienne Martin at the Ecole Nationals des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Elizabeth Freire is a Brazilian-born, contemporary American artist. At the age of eighteen, she left Rio de Janeiro and moved to Paris to study sculpture at l’Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts, receiving her Diploma there in 1979 under the direction of Claude Viseux, Etienne Martin, and Cesar. During that time she worked as an apprentice at the Fonderie de France where she learned bronze technique and she also attended etching courses at l’Ecole de Montparnasse. In 1976, she won a commission to make three life-size figures representing the printing company, “Les Imprimeries de Boulogne,” at the International Printing Fair in Paris. She spent 1977 in Aix-en-Provence where she carved the local stone of Rogne. Returning to Paris, the painter Lutka Pink introduced her to Otero, Frans Krajcberg and Hajdu from whom she received valuable lessons. In 1978, she traveled to Brazil where she was invited to participate in the exhibit ‘A Century of Sculpture in Brazil’. She also met with the sculptor Sergio Camargo...

Red White Blue Americana Wall Hanging Painting Sculpture American Flag Motif
Located in Surfside, FL
Painted wood wall hanging sculpture "Red, White and Blue," (and gold) 2008 Stamped signed with initials, date and edition 2/5 Oded Halahmy, Abstract Modernist artist, was born in Iraq in the old city of Baghdad in 1938, the artist came from a family of Orthodox Jews with deep roots in ancient Babylonian culture. His father, Salech Haskel Chebbazah, was a prosperous goldsmith in Baghdad and a Jewish member of the Communist Party when Jews comprised more than a quarter of the population of Baghdad. He refers to his home as the “land of wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives and dates.”, Oded moved with his family to Israel in the 1950s, was educated at St. Martin's School of Art in London which was then a leading center for sculpture, led by Anthony Caro and Philip King and having links to Henry Moore. He taught sculpture are in the collection of the Guggenheim Museum, the Hirshhorn Museum, and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, as well as many other public and private collections worldwide. He currently lives in New York City and Old Jaffa, Israel. Like countless New Yorkers who arrived from distant lands, Oded Halahmy has a rich personal history of exile, migration and travels. Although New York has been his home for over 45 years, memories of Iraq left an indelible imprint on his life and work. Known for his dynamic yet often playful figurative pop art style sculptures in wood and bronze, he fills his work with images — albeit abstracted from reality — that evoke the landscape, architecture and rich colors of the Middle East. Palm trees, doves, pomegranates, temples and age-old symbols abound along with deep reds, amber, sky blue and the familiar greenish-blue hues of aged bronze. Queen Victoria -- contemporary abstract painting & collage with figure & objects
Located in Bryn Mawr, PA
"QUEEN VICTORIA" is created and from acrylic and found objects on round MDF panel. It includes a photograph of a figure, pocket knife, beads, charms, and other unidentified objects in metal and wood. It is signed and dated along the lower edge. PROVENANCE: Exhibited in "Portals + Revelations: Richard J. Watson," the African American Museum in Philadelphia, Oct 2021 - Mar 2022. "Most of my works are supported by memories of the past and suggested realities. Issues of social politics, ancestral references, and astral projections are presented with fragmented elements of 'real life' collaged and collapsed, as dreams are prone to do. If connections are made, all the better. I feel that life should remind us of our dreams." - Richard J. Watson Richard J. Watson is an icon in the Philadelphia art world. Much of his work relates to his experiences as a Black African American man. He is a graduate of Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1968), has taught at his alma mater, and has served in the Exhibitions Department at the African American Museum in Philadelphia since the 1980s. He has been exhibiting his work for decades, and has an extensive bibliography. His work is held in the Petrucci Family Foundation Collection of African American Art; the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; Temple University; the Uniworld Corporation; Sony; the Federal Reserve Bank; the City of Philadelphia; Sprint; the Church of the Advocate; the poet Dr. Sonia Sanchez; and the Woodmere Museum...

Masterpiece Contemporary Australian Blown and Carved Glass Sculpture Vase
By Ben Edols & Kathy Elliott
Located in Surfside, FL
Provenance: Part of an important collection that had work Both Benjamin Edols and Kathy Elliott were born in Sydney. The two began working together as recent graduates from the Canberra School of Art. Ben also studied at the Royal College of Arts in Sydney. The first exhibition of their collaborative work was in 1993. Since that time they have developed a body of work of blown and cold worked glass vessels and forms. Ben specialises in glassblowing and Kathy specialises in cold working techniques such as carving and engraving. In 2000 they built their own glassblowing and cold working studio in Sydney. In recent years, their work has been inspired by the botanical forms and patterns found in nature. One of the qualities of glass that they most appreciate is its ability to carry light. They have taught in Australia, America and Japan. Their work has been exhibited widely and is held in many public museums and private collections around the world including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the American Craft Museum, the National Gallery of Australia and the Auckland War Memorial Museum. 'Flower' original signed stone Shona sculpture by Obert Mukumbi
Located in Milwaukee, WI
'Flower' is an original opal serpentine sculpture by the Zimbabwean artist Obert Mukumbi. In the sculpture, Obert emphasizes the abstract qualities of the natural forms of the calla lily: At the center, a tall and wide stamen reaches upward as curving leaves and petals break away and curve outward. The massive bulk of the usually delicate flower, as though it has been enlarged, reminds of the paintings of American modernist Georgia O'Keefe, who often used close views and thoughtful cropping to find abstract forms in nature. Here, however, the approach to the subject is purely immersed in the Shona tradition where the stone material is celebrated through contrast between rough and smooth texture and appreciation for deep colors. opal stone (serpentine) signed "O. Mukumbi" along base 22 x 12 x 12 inches Overall excellent condition with no signs of wear or damage. Obert Mukumbi was born on February 11, 1974 in the village of Dengu in Bindura, some 86 kilometers north east of Harare, Zimbabwe, where he likewise completed his O-levels in school. During his education, he was interested in wood craft. By age twelve, however, he began working in stone under the guidance and encouragement of his brother Kennedy...
