(Often much debate is had as to whether miniature furniture was
made as an apprentice piece, which is when a craftsmen who is looking
for a job at a workshop would create something to showcase
their talents, or whether it was made as a travelling salesmans
sample piece, which is when a few articles were made as
scale models in advance of a road trip during which the salesman
would travel the country showing prospective clients
the kind of items they could produce back at the workshop and
take orders from. This particular miniature chest of drawers
is probably the latter and would have been made as a sample
piece. The construction is exquisite and the attention to tiny
detail phenomenal in all honesty. They work that would have
gone into constructing this with all of its fine details would actually
have been more of a challenge and taken a more skilled
craftsmen than its full size counterparts would have done.
It is also super quality and unusual being constructed from burr
oak which has taken on an exceptional rich colour and patina
over the years of its life. A really quite charming piece of
antique miniature furniture...

An important and extremely rare Louis XV style gilt bronze mounted bombe vitrine, firmly attributed to Maison Krieger.
The back of the mounts on the four cornice corners and the floral swags cast with the monogram LM possibly for Leon Message; an old, possibly original label on the back with ink inscription: '1181 (?), galbee vitrine, Lxv, bois Violette..101'.
This exceptional vitrine has a spreading pediment centred by a finely cast gilt bronze stylized acanthus, ‘C’-scroll and foliate cresting, above a glazed bombé central door and concave sides. The silk lined interior is fitted with adjustable shelves and the angles headed by superb gilt bronze figural espagnolettes with uplifted heads, plumes and ruffs. The lower galbée shaped section of the vitrine is mounted with foliate garlands and raised on cabriole legs with acanthus clasps and feet.

Constructed in a strongly grained olivewood and dressed with gold brass inlays and an etched and engraved brass panel; rising from a plinth base, the lockable single door having an inset panel in the manner of Jean Berain, enclosing a shelved interior, and flanked by narrow vertical conforming panels; the apron being dressed with three bronze rosettes, and the Jura Jaune marble is dressed with a three quarter arcaded brass gallery,

The cabinet is illustrated and discussed in Christopher Payne’s “British Furniture 1820 to 1920” published in 2023. Payne singles out the rarity of the olivewood timber used as well as the necessity for hand cutting the large marquetry panel.

Recorded in the 'Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840', published by the Furniture History Society, as being situated at 103 New Bond Street between 1830 and 1840, and apart from being manufacturers of furniture, also dealt in 'curiosities and antiques'. The late renowned connoisseur Christopher Gilbert records in his 'Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture' London 1997, also published by the Furniture History Society, a writing table in the Transitional manner with similar plaques. This chest on chest is of rectangular form in two sections. The upper section has twelve similar drawers in four registers and carrying handles on the sides. The base has a pair of frieze drawers above a single deep drawer, disguised as a pair, with four handles and flanked by carved Nagini whose monopodia scroll supports are raised on blocks to form the feet. The whole piece is decorated with an overall pattern of interlaced stars and circles embellished with ebony and ivory dots and is applied with brass handles and lock escutcheons. Goanese, circa 1800.
