Auguste Ledru
Auguste Ledru was a French 19th-century artist who was born in 1860. Ledru was well known for creating figurative Art Nouveau sculptures in the form of ewers and decorative vases, often featuring sirens and water nymphs surrounded by waves and shells, with the majority of his pieces cast by the famous Susse Frères foundry of Paris. His daughter Augustine married René Lalique and Ledru’s work, such as this plaque, clearly influenced Lalique in his jewelry and glass designs. He died in 1902.
