These large doors originated from Shanxi province, China, and are approx. 100-120 years old. Made of Elm & Pine, the most unique part about these doors are the many signs that are affixed on it, do note that although the doors are antique, these signs are added much later on.
Besides the actual door number and road name, the others are the many accolades that this family has earned. Starting from the red plate on the left, this was given by the Shanxi Provincial People's Government. The Chinese words translate into "family of glory", this was to given to the household as a member of the family had retired from the military, to recognise his contribution to the country; it could also had been given to the family if the soldier was sacrificed during his service. Exceptional, rare and completely restored wooden Sado ishô dansu (cabinet of drawers) with elaborately decorated open work iron hardware, in two sections. Fully restored, cleaned and waxed.
The exterior is made of hinoki cypress wood. Only slightly varnished, giving it a tad warmer colour. This soft underground lets the refined hardware stand out even more.
The upper part consists of two large drawers. The lower part with two drawers of different size and a hinged door. The interior behind the door with three small drawers. All the drawers are very deep and have a lot of volume, for easy storage. They run very smoothly as well.
The cabinet has extensively decorated hardware. The corner pieces of the drawers with stylized pine trees. The large decorative lock plates each with their own unique design of different auspicious animals; a peacock, a phoenix, a crane and a minogame. A spectacular Japanese lacquer and porcelain inlaid display cabinet on stand, kazaridana, Meiji Period, late 19th century, Japan.
The sumptuous kazaridana of traditional display cabinet form, with several shelves and enclosed spaces for display and storage. The cabinet decorated all over in beautiful maki-e lacquer against a dense nashiji ground and inset with blue and white Arita porcelain plaques.
The front of the cabinet of asymmetric design, with two open display shelves at staggered heights, and several doors enclosing storage areas of various shapes and sizes, including one hinged corner door, two pairs of sliding doors, and one pair of hinged doors opening to reveal a rounded inset corner shelf. A pair of drawers below complete the cabinet. All supported on a separate tall fitted stand.
The corner door decorated with a bold scene of a samurai warrior fighting a demon. This most likely depicts the warrior Watanabe no Tsuna battling the demon Ibaraki-doji at Rashomon gate, in which Watanabe no Tsuna attempts to help a young girl return home, carrying her on his back, only for the girl to turn into a demon, which he then must fight.
The top pair of sliding doors with a scene of a man playing the sho, a Japanese mouth organ, along the banks of a river with a waterfall in the background.
