Eugenio Pellini Nives Primi 1900 fusione in bronzo a patina scura firmata dall’autore italiano lombardo E. Pellini (1864-1934) sul lato sinistro della base rettangolare; sul bordo frontale sempre in stampatello troviamo inciso il titolo, Nives, nome della figlia primogenita. In ottimo stato di conservazione, la scultura risale all’inizio Novecento e proviene da una collezione privata milanese. Appoggiata su di una base quadrata con un lieve incavo portaggetti nella parte anteriore, come fosse una scultura fermacarte, la bimba vestita con un camice ed una cuffia è ritratta intenta ad osservare un oggetto morbido, forse una bambola, che regge tra le mani.
Per l'esportazione dall'Italia di un oggetto d'arte che risale a più di 50 anni di età, va richiesta al Ministero dei Beni Culturali una licenza di esportazione chiamata BELLE ARTI. il rilascio di tale licenza governativa richiede un paio di settimane circa, da aggiungere ai tempi di evasione dell'ordine.
Eugenio Pellini nasce il 17 novembre 1864 a Marchirolo, a quei tempi in provincia di Como (oggi Varese) da Andrea e Carolina Pellini.Nel 1878 si trasferisce a Milano presso il fratello Oreste e inizia l’apprendistato nella bottega del marmista Biganzoli. Nel 1888 comincia a frequentare l’Accademia di Brera e realizza le prime opere significative, in particolare “Lo spazzacamino”. Il 10 novembre 1891 vince il Premio Triennale Oggioni, che prevede la specializzazione presso l’Accademia di Roma. Eugenio inizia così un lungo viaggio d’arte attraverso l’Italia, in un percorso che lo porterà a Firenze, Roma e in Sicilia. Successivamente, a Parigi incontra la scultura di Medardo Rosso e di Rodin, autori che risulteranno fondamentali per l’evolversi del suo stile. Torna a Milano nel 1893 e realizza alcune sculture monumentali come “L’angelo del dolore”per la tomba Macario e il “Cristo nel Getsemani”per la tomba Lardera. La consacrazione artistica si completa nel 1897 con la vittoria al Premio Tantardini, in cui propone l’opera “Madre”; con tale gruppo scultoreo viene chiamato a rappresentare la scultura lombarda all’Esposizione Universale di Parigi nel 1900, dove riceve altri premi. A causa delle agitazioni che interessavano Milano, lo scultore si rifugia a Varese. Ai primi anni del ‘900 ritorna Milano e ottiene l’incarico per l’insegnamento alla Scuola Superiore degli Artefici del Castello Sforzesco, attività che mantiene fino al 1929. Nel 1903, l’incontro con la futura moglie, Dina Magnani, modella all’Accademia di Brera, da cui avrà tre figli: Nives, Eros (futuro scultore) e Silvana. Looking at Christ like this and thinking about the gruesome way in which He lost His earthly life, the crucifix (in our view) is a symbol of what 'telling people the truth' can lead to. 'The truth does not have many friends' is something I once read. Looking at what is going on in the world today, in most countries that still is the case. However, we feel that we (humans), nevertheless, are still becoming more loving, civilized, empathetic and self-conscious. Mind you, this good size wall crucifix dates from the early 1900s and the cruelties that people did to one another for acting or being different than 'normal' in those days, in most cases were far worse than what we see in this day and age. Looking at Christ on the cross with this in mind, we have come along way and we are slowly, but surely evolving in the right direction. Maybe it is just some of our 'leaders' who are lacking behind. Christ on the cross should therefor also be a reminder of someone who has lived and foreseen all this and who should therefor always be a beacon of hope and light when things are not going our way, yet. What attracted us most in this work of religious art are the quality details of His anatomy and the warm patina of this finely carved corpus. Antique Franz Bergman Bruno Zach Cold Painted Bronze Peacock with Fanned Train

This fabulous bronze peacock was made at Franz Bergman's Vienna foundry and bears the name of sculptor Bruno Zach. The highly detailed sculpture is beautifully cast and features cold painted polychrome decoration. The peacock's crested head is turned slightly to the left and its magnificent fanned tail feathers - also known as a train - are realistically rendered and arch forward as they rise. The train has splayed feathers at both ends that rest flat on the display surface, preventing instability. The feathers have been finished with white shafts and greenish-gold vanes while the ornamental black eyespots are accented with metallic rose and copper colored paint. It should be noted that the back of the bird's train is also highly detailed lending visual interest if viewed from the front or the rear.
The peacock's head and body are painted in a silvery color while the painted decoration on the head includes large white masks and black eyes that are ringed in orange. The bird's angled beak is finished in yellow and has well defined upper and lower sections. The peacock's wings are positioned parallel to its body and extend back beyond the train. The outside of each wing is accented in mottled copper and black paint while the rear portions bear a series of painted copper and black stripes. The bird's thin legs are finished in gray and have black spurs at the back. Its long toes terminate in sharp black talons.
The peacock is in very good condition with no replacements or repairs. As an antique, the piece shows signs of age including minor areas of paint loss that are noted for accuracy. It stands 8" at the tallest point of the train and is 11.5" as measured across the widest points of the train. The piece is 3.25" at its deepest point. The back of the train bears a partially legible Bergman amphora-shaped foundry mark with a B at the center. It is also signed 'Zach' in cast at the underside of one section of tail feathers for sculptor Bruno Zach who had a history of collaborating with Bergman to edit and cast some of his works. The peacock weighs 3lbs 2oz.
