This generously oversized cup and saucer is scaled up for maximum impact, and glazed in a glossy mix of exuberant teal and vibrant cobalt blue that emphasizes the drippy textured surface with a subtle sheen that catches the light. This work is composed of two separate pieces: the cup, and the saucer upon which it neatly sits. The cup can function as a vessel for an enormous bunch of flowers, a cachepot for a plant, or stand alone as a decorative object. With its monumental proportions, this piece brings a mega-size sense of whimsy to any setting. Artist Information: Jaye Kim is a Korean-American artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Her ceramic work is an exploration of her interior world regarding the symbolism and rituals of motherhood. Depicting the mundane objects Kim interacts with daily in ginormous scale, from cups and saucers to skin care face masks and cabbages, the ordinary is transformed into the interpersonal.
