About the Item

A vase from the stepped series in hand-turned in white clay enameled with two-tone matt gray and light green glaze, manufactured in the 1990s by Bitossi and designed by Ettore Sottsass Jr. The stepped vases series was originally realized by Il Sestante in 1966 and in 1982. From the creative mind of Ettore Sottsass and the mastery of the ceramic masters of the Manifattura Bitossi, starting a series of furnishing accessories with an irresistible appeal and timeless character was born. This vase is no exception, as Sottsass returns to his attraction to the steps motif and two-tone glazing compositions. In this version, the vase presents a unique composition of color that never come in production, in fact, it was a color proof datable before 1991, when the final collection was presented by Manifattura Bitossi in different color shades. Sottsass reuses the traditional hand lathe process in white clay. The final product is a unique object, destined to leave its mark thanks to its contemporary design shapes linked to the oldest ceramic tradition of the Tuscan company which created it. Due to the oxidation of the enamel, the author's signature is lightly visibile under the base.
