Zoomorphic Partridge Ewer Blue French Glass Late 19th century
Located in Paris, FR
Original zoomorphic pitcher ewer in the shape of a partridge. Beautiful item made of silver plate for the head of the partridge nicely chiseled showing the lovely texture of feathers and blown blue glass for the body part, with a handle on the back. Yellow-colored glass eyes. The Head of the partridge is mounted on a hinge forming a movable lid for the pitcher-ewer. This kind of pitcher ewer was mainly used to serve delicious alcohol or liquor with flavor and aroma, such as pear, and mirabelle plum, as it was during the "Belle Epoque" a very fashionable and refined custom. This colored blown glass was produced by the Portieux Crystal factory created in 1705, it has a written mark "Deposé" beneath the body of the ewer, french work from the late 19th century, probably from Napoleon III period. The history of this factory known as the "Portieux crystal factory" actually begins in Tonnoy in 1690. In 1698, Duke Leopold I of Lorraine granted letters patent to Sieur de la Pommeraye, owner of the premises, associated with François Magnien, holder of the know-how, the exclusivity of glass manufacturing and trade in his duchy. In 1898, the Grand Duchess of Vladimir, wife of the brother of Tsar Nicolas II, discovered the factory while on a cure in Contrexéville. She will become a frequent customer. in 1960, the company supplies many prestigious customers: Maxim's, Brasserie Lipp, Hôtel de Crillon, Le Bristol...

Late 19th Century Milky White Opaline Bohemian Gilded Box, France, 1850-1920
Located in Queens Village, NY
This antique Bohemian opaline glass box is a work of art that has withstood the test of time. Because of the beautiful gold gilding that covers all four sides, this exquisite piece of milky white glass is a treasure for collectors and art lovers. This box, handcrafted in France between 1850 and 1920, is an excellent example of the country's ever-popular handicraft. Despite having lost some of its gilding, the glass is in excellent condition, with no apparent chips or cracks. The classic appearance of the box will give character to any environment, and it is ideal for storing valuables. Because of its exceptional beauty and elegance, this antique box is a must-have for every history buff or lover of great craftsmanship. We are selling this beautiful art piece on different platforms; please check availability before purchasing. More photos may be provided if necessary. Storyteller: A young American soldier called James served in France during World War Two. As he strolled down the street, he saw an antique shop with a stunning opaline glass box in the window. Even though the glass had lost its gold coating, it was still in fine condition. James wasted no time in entering the store to inquire about the mysterious box. Madame Dupont claims the box, which is flawless, was manufactured in France some time between 1850 and 1920. James bought the crate because he wanted a piece of French heritage in his home. James kept the box on his bunk and used it to pass the time in his leisure time while stationed in France. James found comfort in the box since it brought back memories of France's pre-war splendor and culture. James was tragically abducted while on duty. He reflected on the times when the box had helped him relax while he was locked up. It was something he desperately wanted to get his hands on again. James had all but given up hope of ever being released from the camp. And yet, as he was being led back to his cell, he recognized something: a milky white opaline glass box...
