A collection of 8 country spindleback chairs, with nice color and patina. They are very much handmade and are possibly a marriage of two different sets from the same maker. The back heights, seat heights, widths and depths are similar but not identical, as shown in several of the images. However, when put together as a set, the overall look is charming and elegant. The turnings are slightly lighter from use, as is appropriate. Nicely articulated and varied ball feet. Rush seats are in good condition.

Originally designed by renowned Scottish architect, designer and artist, Charles Rennie Mackintosh for the Hill House project in 1888, the Hill House Chair 1 is a true icon of the Art Nouveau era.
The design of the chair was modified by the designer in 1903 to elongate the backrest and this is the model that Cassina began to produce in Italy from 1985, remaining in production today.
Constructed from solid ash in a black lacquer finish, the chair has a linear silhouette finding the perfect balance between intricate design and minimalism.
The exaggerated ladder back runs all the way to the floor and is finished with a contrasting gridded panel at the top, while the angular seat cushion is upholstered in petroleum green velvet.
