Spectacular Mid-Century French Riviera complete living room set designed by Janine Abraham & Dirk Jan Rol and made in France during the late 1950s.
This incredibly rare sculptural rattan set is considered the "Nirvana" of French Riviera organic design. The set includes two twin basketware lounge chairs, a round ottoman and a large oval mirror. Everything is in exceptional conditions and comes from the same project, making the wonderful light honey color of the rattan extremely even between the different objects.
The basketware chairs were fully hand-crafted in curved rattan and hand-woven wicker. The perfect proportions of these chairs are mind-blowing. The center of the seating is enriched by a wonderful work in woven wicker.
The seats are supported by a stunning black enameled frame in bent metal. The geometric frame and legs show Rol’s background in architecture and add modernity to the organic material of the seat.
The ottoman has a round hourglass-shaped structure made in single pieces of rattan curved at different angles and kept together by a perfect work of woven wicker.
The chairs and the ottoman are completed by a round cushion in an elegant white boucle fabric. The spectacular build quality make this set light yet extremely sturdy.
The large oval mirror that completes the set is also in amazing conditions and follows the same design of the rest of set.
The uniqueness of this set and the amazing conditions make it incredibly charming and a must have for all the French Riviera style lovers.

French-born designer Janine Abraham studied at the École Camondo in Paris, graduating in 1952. She met Dutch-born designer Dirk Jan Rol at the studio of Jacques Dumond in 1955. The following year, in 1956, the pair showed their first collaborative work at the Salon des Artistes Decorateurs.

Carl Malmsten was a famous Swedish furniture designer, architect, and educator born in 1888, in Sweden and passed away in 1972. He collaborated with Gunnar Asplund and Uno Ahren. Malmsten has a lasting influence on Swedish design through the two schools which he founded, the Carl Malmsten furniture studies. In 1945, Malmsten was honored for a design with an inaugural Prince Eugen Medal in Sweden.
O.H. Sjögren is one of the oldest Swedish furniture companies which is run by the fourth generation. The company was originally founded in circa 1870 by C. Rosén in Tranås, Sweden. In 1902, the Swedish manufacturer ( known today as O.H. Sjögren ) was taken over by Oskar Herbert Sjögren. In the early times, they were producing harnesses, saddles, etc. for horses. Full Description:
A highly collectable original authentic Featherston contour suite which includes the pair of armchairs and matching settee in original olive green fabric from the factory most likely from 1950s possibly early 1960s. We were lucky enough to purchase this complete set from a private collector prior from a furniture dealer in Melbourne. The original olive dark green fabric has withstood its test of time in fabulous condition as the mould and legs/timber have been thoroughly inspected and tested. Although Featherston contour chairs are fairly "common" a complete original set with original fabric is very rare indeed, and we have spent no expense on restoring the legs/timber to original glory in its lovely silky oak finish. We chose not to re-upholster the suite in another new fabric as an original suite in excellent condition original fabric is hard to come by. Handcrafted living room or patio set. It is made in the style of Gerrit Rietveld and is clearly inspired by his legendary "kratstoel" or "crate chair" where difference lies in the amount of slats in the seat and back. This set was made during the 1950s and is entirely made from pine and assembled using round headed screws that are recessed in the wood. Made with great eye for detail.
The set consists of 2 two-seater sofas and 1 lounge chair.

De Stijl (Dutch for "The Style"), also known as Neoplasticism, was a Dutch art movement founded in 1917 in Leiden. De Stijl consisted of artists and architects. In a more narrow sense, the term De Stijl is used to refer to a body of work from 1917 to 1931 founded in the Netherlands. Proponents of De Stijl advocated pure abstraction and universality by a reduction to the essentials of form and colour; they simplified visual compositions to vertical and horizontal, using only black, white and primary colors.
De Stijl is also the name of a journal that was published by the Dutch painter, designer, writer, and critic Theo van Doesburg that served to propagate the group's theories. Along with van Doesburg, the group's principal members were the painters Piet Mondrian, Vilmos Huszár, Bart van der Leck, and the architects Gerrit Rietveld, Robert van 't Hoff, and J. J. P. Oud.
