About the Item

Hans Wegner CH28 Sawback Lounge Chair Danish Modern Icon by Carl Hansen & Søn Presenting an exceptional example of the CH28 Sawback Lounge Chair designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1951 and produced by Carl Hansen & Søn, Denmark. Known as the ‘Sawback’ due to its distinctive sculptural side profile with exposed joinery, this chair embodies Wegner’s commitment to ergonomic comfort and masterful woodworking. The CH28 features a solid oak frame with a gently curved oak veneer backrest and a generous black leather seat. The seat has been professionally replaced with high-quality leather in keeping with the original specification, ensuring longevity while retaining authenticity. The chair’s refined silhouette, angled armrests, and balanced proportions exemplify Danish Modern design ideals of simplicity, functionality, and sculptural form. Designer: Hans J. Wegner Manufacturer: Carl Hansen & Søn, Denmark Model: CH28 Sawback Lounge Chair Date: Designed in 1951 Materials: Solid oak, oak veneer backrest, new black leather seat Dimensions: H77 x W73 x D67 cm (approx.) ⸻ Condition Report Very good vintage condition. The oak frame shows light age-related wear consistent with careful use, adding character to its patina. The black leather seat has been recently replaced with appropriate, good-quality leather. Structurally solid, with all joints firm and true. Lightly cleaned and oiled to preserve the natural beauty of the wood grain. ⸻ Historical Notes Hans Wegner (1914–2007) was a master of Danish Modern design, known for his organic, human-centred chairs that remain icons of 20th-century design. The CH28, designed in 1951, is admired for its lightweight sculptural profile and exceptional comfort, often described as a ‘lounge chair in its purest form.’ ⸻ Shipping & Delivery Shipping prices shown on 1stdibs are indicative. By Arne Jacobsen, Fritz Hansen

A timeless icon of design this wonderful set of eight model #3107 (also known as the "Series-7") stacking dining chairs in black were designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen in 1955. This set are an early production model with a rarely seen registered and numbered metal CAP, April 1964. In the late 60’s Fritz Hansen then changed to the more commonly seen plastic stamped CAP. The CAP carries the Made in Denmark, the Danish Control FurnitureMakers emblem and the FH logo along with the year. This is important for collectors who are not looking to buy the more usual plastic CAP chairs you find on later production models. This highly practical early set of 8 dining side chairs...
