Corbusier LC1 Sling Lounge Chairs in Hair-On-Hide Leather, A Pair
By Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand Cassina, Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Cassina
Located in Round Top, TX
Now known as the 1 Fauteuil Dossier Basculant, the LC1 chair was originally introduced at the Salon d’Automne in 1928 by the designers Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand. Since then, the LC1 chair has become one of the most iconic furniture designs of the 20th Century, with Cassina taking on production of the piece in 1965. Constructed from a chromed steel frame, the chairs have been ergonomically designed using a system based on the measurements of the human body to ensure ultimate support and comfort. The chairs have a compact silhouette, with hair-on-hide sling seats and tilting backrests, with armrests in matching leather. Timeless classics, these chairs looks as modern today as they did in 1928, making them the perfect addition to any contemporary living space. Cassina re-issued the chairs in 1965, and we attribute the production to Cassina, but cannot guarantee the producer because they are not marked. The proportions and quality of production are of a very high level. These are in very nice original vintage condition; there are some worn areas to the leather. They will be wonderful seating in a living room, as occasional seating in the family room, in your bedroom or dressing area, or facing the fireplace in the study. Le Corbusier was born in 1887 as Charles Edouard Jeanneret. He began experimenting with furniture design in 1928 after seeing a model apartment designed by the architect Charlotte Perriand, whom he invited to join his studio. His cousin, Pierre Jeanneret, also collaborated on many of his designs and Thonet was the first manufacturer of his designs in the 1930’s. Along with Walter Gropius, Mies Van der Rohe, and Theo Van Doesburg, Le Corbusier is often considered the father of Modernism. He created a range of chairs that express his ideas, most of which have become classics. The Le Corbusier Basculant...
