Rare and Quite Unique Space Age Loveseat by Tue Poulsen for Domus Danica, 1970
Located in Haderslev, DK
Seven different danish furniture companies went into a collaboration - Domus Danica - in a very short period in the start of 1970. Tue Poulsen who was a well respected danish ceramist was given an assignment to come up with a line of modern furnitures which should be produced in fiberglass. Tue Poulsen made a serie of fiberglass furnitures for the danish fair at Bella Center in Copenhagen and the serie consisted of a loungechair, a double loungechair, a chaiselongue, a sofa and a table. They were the eye-catchers of the fair and several of Tue Poulsen collegues mocked him with the space design he had created because at that time fiberglass was not a frowned material. This double lounge chair...

Black Chrome Melting Chair by Philipp Aduatz
Located in Geneve, CH
Black chrome melting chair by Philipp Aduatz, 2011 Edition of 12 + 3 A/P Dimensions: 95 x 93 x 78 cm Materials: Glass fiber reinforced polymer, black chrome Philipp Aduatz´ intention in the design of the Melting Chair is to capture a transient transformation within a sculptural object. The Melting Chair, which is suitable for use, is carefully crafted to appear to the viewer either as a solid chair melting away or as a solidification of a liquid melt. Usually, materials can be observed in certain aggregate phases: they can be solid, fluid or gaseous, but not at the same time. Only during phase transitions the borders between these phases become blurred. This moment of change seems utterly fragile and filled with fascinating possibilities at the same time. Aduatz main goal in the design of the Melting Chair was to hold on to this fleeting moment and phrase his fascination for it into a usable object. To create a realistic illusion, Aduatz studied the solidification of fluids as well as the melting of solids with modern 3D animation software. With this background, he designed the surface of the object down to the smallest detail - like an architect plans...

“Orchidée” Lounge Chair by Michel Cadestin for Airborne, France, 1968
Located in Utrecht, NL
This large fiberglass lounge chair, the “Orchidée” was one of the Cadestin models that were ordered by the Centre Pompidou Museum. The design dates to 1968 and was manufactured by Airborne International. This chair stands out both in terms of size, as well as its design. While the fiberglass base provides a modern look, the upholstered seat, back and armrests give the chair a cosy feel. With the folding top of the seat and armrests, the chair resembles the shape of an orchid flower, which is where the model’s name derives from. The chair has been reupholstered in a cognac colored full aniline leather, which gives a nice contrast to the white fiberglass base. Thanks to its impressive size and soft fabric, this chair is perfect for lounging while also adding an eye-catching visual element to any space. Among the models Cadestin designed for the Center Georges Pompidou, the Orchid is one of the most outstanding pieces. Condition: In good vintage condition. Some minor scratches on the fiberglass base. Recently reupholstered in premium aniline leather. Dimensions: 35.43 in W x 40.94 in D x 37.79 in H, seat height 15.15 in 90 cm W x 104 cm D x 96 cm H, seat height 38.5 cm About the designer: Michel Cadestin was born in France in 1942. He is an interior designer and architect and through his work, he wishes to offer a functional and fun design accessible to the majority. A prolific designer, he has experienced with diverse forms and materials during his career. His creations are varied as evidenced by the furniture intended for the Center Georges Pompidou, such as the Karate armchair...

1 Herman Miller Eames Fiberglass Shell DAR Eiffel Base
Located in Pasadena, TX
Charles Eames and Ray Eames were the embodiment of the inventiveness, energy and optimism at the heart of Mid-Century Modern American design, and have been recognized as the most influential designers of the 20th century. The Eames' eagerly embraced new technology and materials, and one of their peculiar talents was to imbue their supremely modern design with references to folk traditions. Their Wire chair group of the 1950s, for example, was inspired by basket weaving techniques. The populist notion of “Good Design for all” drove their molded fiberglass chair series that same decade, and also produced the organic-form, ever-delightful La Chaise. In 1956 the Eames lounge chair and ottoman appeared — the supremely comfortable plywood-base-and-leather-upholstery creation that will likely live in homes as long as there are people with good taste and sense. 1 midcentury Herman Miller Eames Fiberglass Shell...
