Fabulous Contemporary NaughtOne for Herman Miller Hush high wing back sofa or settee with yellow & black fabric and polyester powder coated yellow metal wire sled base, 3 available selling separately. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. They have been professionally cleaned. No outstanding flaws have been detected. Do you know where a Bee sits??? On it’s BEE-HIND!!! LOL! Ok, just a little fun about the beautiful black & yellow fabric that we think is the bees-knees!!! It’s striking! We have three (selling separately) NaughtOne for Herman Miller Hush high wing back sofas or settees comprised of molded plywood inner frames with distinctive profiles and a metal wire sled base finished in a hard-wearing polyester bright yellow powder coat to match the fabulous horizontal channeled, high quality foam seat & back cushions. The wing style sides, and inner frame is covered in a wonderful black & white tweed, some call it the “bumblebee look.” Aren’t they AWESOME??? We certainly think they are something to BUZZ about!!!! Ha ha! NaughtOne is owned and sold by Herman Miller and the Hush high wing back sofa is available with two or three seat capacity, ours are the two-seater sofas. The Hush sofa is a modern take on a traditional wing back and they were designed to exude comfort and posture support with an upright pleasant seating position. They would be marvelous in a waiting room or reception area or as a bench in the corner of your bedroom. We think two of them would make a GREAT banquette at a kitchen table! They are contemporary in style, but they would be beautiful combined with Industrial, Mid-Century Modern, Modern, or Postmodern décor. Wherever you place this Hush sofa or settee, it is sure to make a bright and BOLD statement!
Herman Miller started life as Star furniture Co. in Zeeland, Michigan in 1905, a producer of high-quality furniture. Becoming Michigan Star Furniture Co in 1919, and then in 1923, when long time employee Dirk Jan De Pree and his father-in-law purchased 51% of the company stock, it was renamed Herman Miller Furniture Company. And remained so until the 1960s when it became Herman Miller, Inc. Until the 1930s they produced only traditional wood furniture, but the Great Depression caused a need for change, and they hired modernist Gilbert Rohde who took the company in a new successful direction. Upon Rohde’s death in 1944 he was replaced by none other than the renowned George Nelson. Working with the likes of not only Charles and Ray Eames but Isamu Noguchi, Alexander Girard, and Robert Propst, to name just a few, Nelson led Herman Miller to became one of the finest names in furniture and design.
NaughtOne is a British furniture company, founded in 2005, who designs and manufactures furniture for modern spaces. Their furniture products boast inviting, rounded forms including warm, approachable furniture and a diverse selection of fabrics to choose from. Herman Miller bought NaughtOne in 2019 and continues to offer these products through their website. In 2021 Herman Miller combined with Knoll to create MillerKnoll. Herman Miller
No other business of its kind did more than the Herman Miller Furniture Company to introduce modern design into American homes. Working with legendary designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson and Alexander Girard, the Zeeland, Michigan-based firm fostered some of the boldest expressions of what we now call mid-century modern style. In doing so, Herman Miller produced some of the most beautiful, iconic and, one can even say, noblest chairs, sofas, tables and other furniture ever.
Founded in 1923, Herman Miller was originally known for grand historicist bedroom suites: heavily ornamented wood furniture that appealed to a high-minded, wealthier clientele. The company — named for its chief financial backer — began to suffer in the early 1930s as the Great Depression hit, and D.J. De Pree, the company’s CEO, feared bankruptcy. In 1932, aid came in the form of Gilbert Rohde, a self-taught furniture designer who had traveled widely in Europe, absorbing details of the Art Deco movement and other modernist influences. After persuading De Pree that the growing middle class required smaller, lighter household furnishings, Rohde set a new course for Herman Miller, creating sleek chairs, tables and cabinetry that were the essence of the Streamline Moderne style.
Rohde died suddenly in 1944. The following year, De Pree turned to George Nelson, an architect who had written widely about modern furniture design. Under Nelson’s leadership, Herman Miller would embrace new technologies and materials and audacious biomorphic forms.
Some of the pieces the company produced are now emblems of 20th century American design, including the Eames lounge chair and ottoman and Nelson’s Marshmallow sofa and Coconut chair. Such instantly recognizable furnishings have become timeless — staples of a modernist décor; striking, offbeat notes in traditional environments.

Comprised of aluminum frame, 4 prong aluminum base, nylon feet, black swivel shaft, black powder coated aluminum arms, & has been reupholstered in an aubergine or eggplant faux suede. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. There are some minor scratches on the arms. Please see photos and zoom in for details. I can’t think of anything better than a vintage Charles & Ray Eames for Herman Miller Aluminum Group high back chair!!! Except maybe a purple one!! Aubergine Eggplant, Purple whichever!! WOW!!! It is comprised of an aluminum frame, 4 prong aluminum base with nylon feet, black swivel shaft, black powder coated aluminum arms, and it has been reupholstered in a lovely aubergine or eggplant faux suede fabric. Can we just say Design EXCELLENCE!!!! And not to mention extraordinary comfort! The dynamic design duo of husband and wife team Charles & Ray Eames focused on every detail and combined ergonomics, flexibility, constructive elements, highest quality materials, and attention to superior style which created a masterpiece that is highly sought after still today. The design was introduced in 1958 and is still in production! This vintage beauty will be phenomenal at a desk in an office setting, next to your bed or in the dressing area of your bedroom, or extra seating in the sitting room. It is versatile enough to blend in with many décor styles, but it’s bursting with Mid-Century Modern magnificence!! This treasure is exactly what the designer ordered!
Charles Eames was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1907. Ray Kaiser Eames was born in Sacramento, California in 1912. They met at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan and were married in 1941. They moved together to California and continued their design work they began together at Cranbrook. A commission, which they acquired from the government during WWII to produce molded plywood splints and stretchers, launched a career producing iconic Mid-Century Modern furnishings which are still fresh and sought after today.
