French Restauration Period Rosewood Marquetry Cabinet
Located in London, GB
This cabinet was crafted in France at the end of the ‘Bourbon Restauration’ period. It is characteristically ‘Restauration’ in its style, with its curvaceous Neoclassical forms, and fine marquetry work. The cabinet is comprised of a two-storey body, which is surmounted by a pitched top, with chamfered edges. This top is hinged, and lifts up to reveal the upper compartment, which is divided into five parts (four small, one large). The underside of the top is mounted with a mirror. Directly beneath this, there is a pull-out drawer, which is split into two sections (one narrow, one large), and is lockable. The top, the top’s chamfered sides, and the front of the upper and lower storage spaces, are decorated with light-coloured floral marquetry designs. This light-coloured wood also runs along, and articulates, the edges of the cabinet body. Four curvy, cabriole legs with scrolled tops support the cabinet body. These are ornamented on their tops with light-coloured marquetry flowers and leaves, and along their edges with marquetry bands. The four legs support an oval-shaped shelf about midway between them. This shelf features a central light-coloured marquetry rosette, bordered by a slim marquetry band. The legs stand on castors, which will allow the piece to be easily moved around an interior. The cabinet’s variety of small compartments are perfect for storing precious jewellery, or makeup. This aspect, combined with its large mirror, make it an ideal women’s dressing table...

'Taliesin' Model #2005 Special Cabinet by Frank Lloyd Wright, 1955, Signed
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This gorgeously refinished Honduran Mahogany 'Taliesin' Model #2005 Special Cabinet on Stand was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Heritage-Henredon in 1955 and produced only for two years, therefore is now a highly sought-after and rare collectors item and this particular cabinet design being one of the most sought after of the entire collection. This example is signed with the red Taliesin symbol on the back along with its stamped model #2005. This rare Frank Lloyd Wright cabinet features the rare sought after architectural base with equally rare and sought after two door cabinet with concentric square designs on doors. Inside the cabinet is a removable shelf. The cabinet can be removed from the base as can be seen in the photos. Frank Lloyd Wright stated that one of his goals for this line was for the 'design to make the home more efficient as well as more beautiful'. Woven into each piece of this series was the chamfered wood edge with an abstracted Greek key motif, the signature detail of every Taliesin design, covering the edges of each item in the collection. All of the pieces were executed in Honduran Mahogany, a high-end luxury wood choice. His idea was to design ‘infinite adaptability to American living’, for example desks could double as dressing tables, small tables could be used as a chair or stool and bookcases had moveable tops transforming into room dividers. Decoration was limited to the greek key edges so that ‘is of the piece, not on it’ and the removal of elimination of any hardware door or drawer pulls in favor of cut out flush pulls which ‘catch light and shadow for interesting and changing patterns’. Wright pitched three separate concepts to Heritage Henredon: ‘Burberry’, ‘Honeycomb’ and ‘Four Square’ which was the one chosen to go into production and renamed ‘Taliesin’ after Wrights Wisconsin home. A distinguishing feature of the Taliesin line is that each piece is identified with a branded signature which was often accompanied by a red square. No other items from the rest of Wright's career is marked or identified which makes this line more desirable to collectors. This particular cabinet design recently broke auction records for its model - demonstrating the rarity and desirability of Frank Lloyd Wright's work along with the uniqueness of this cabinet design and demand from art and design collectors and investors, along with the interior design community. This beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright Taleisin cabinet would work great in a Craftsman, Farm House, Monterey, Spanish, Mission, Arts & Crafts, Mid-Century Modern, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using as a small blanket chest, a dry bar for liquor...

Helix Cabinet Limited Edition of 3, Designed by Ramón Úbeda for BD Barcelona
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Helix cabinet limited edition of 3, designed by Ramón Úbeda for BD Barcelona, Barcelona. Container, frontals and shelves veneered in natural stained dark oak. Legs in aluminum with a brass coat. Accessories in polished varnished brass. Dimensions 200 x 50 x H 67 cm. REmix project Vol.1 & Vol.2. REcuperate, REuse and REinterpret. BD is joining the prefixed RE conscientiousness - with a project that is without any complex inspired in our grandmother’s kitchen. Cooking with leftovers is something as old as necessary and nevertheless creative. In our recipe book exist memorable dishes that are prepared with hard bread from the previous day, and chicken leftovers from Sunday’s roast. Leftovers that are wisely reused and reinterpreted. For example, the canelón or cannelloni that can be transformed into a kitchen masterpiece. Company warehouses in the design sector also accumulate leftovers. Generally, these are loose pieces or components of furniture parts that have been forgotten about and put in a drawer, because there was once an excess in fabrication or have been discontinued. It’s a considerable amount of stock that has no way out and that grows with time until it becomes a problem. It loses all its value but continues taking up space and ends up being legally certified (mandatory) to be destroyed. BD has accumulated outdated materials as well, but before considering destroying it we thought we could give it a second chance. Amongst the materials, there are the door handles and knobs designed by Cristian Cirici, which had a lot of success during the eighties of the past century, but stopped being sold when the company changed direction to focus on other markets. In our actual catalogue, there are no door handles or knobs, but we have unique pieces; so why not convert these leftovers into design and art pieces? We offer a limited edition until stocks last. This project has been named REmix, since it has something of a mix, like disco music that was fashionable at the same time the original pieces were designed. To complete it we have had the help and participation of different authors. REmix Vol.1 is a limited set of candle holders...

Monumental Rosewood Sideboard Cabinet with Brass and Rose Lucite Pulls, c 1930s
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This stunning and exquisite sideboard cabinet was expertly crafted from Rosewood with brass and rose lucite center cabinet pulls. This monumentally sized cabinet was clearly an important piece as its craftsmanship and materials are first-class. The rippled Rosewood cabinet doors and rose tinted lucite pulls are ahead of its time. Refinished in a French Polish which accentuates the exotic Rosewood grain and protects the surface against regular daily use. The features on this eye-catcher are quite comprehensive. Let's start with the most obvious: incredible book-matched Rosewood across the top, front center doors and running along the base and side cabinet doors. Such wild attention to detail creating a stunning visual effect. Now let's pay attention to the more subtle details such as the rippled corners - there are actually concealed compartment doors somewhat hidden in those ripples. The center door pulls are also superb - the center plates in lightly patinated brass and the handles in rose colored lucite with gently beveled edges. Four keys are included with the cabinet, as seen in photos. While we are confident that this cabinet was designed by someone important and for an important client, we are unsure of the maker at this time. It was previously attributed to Louis Majorelle however we are uncertain of that so we are not listing it as such. Rosewood with this exotic of grain combined with high quality interiors and hardware, plus the use of rose colored lucite pulls is a sign that this was not just any run of the mill piece but something with plenty of thought and care devised into its creation. This Rosewood French Art Deco sideboard cabinet...

Tommi Parzinger for Charak Modern Display Cabinet, c 1955, Signed
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A rare collectors item, this fully restored Tommi Parzinger for Charak Modern (c. 1955) display cabiinet / vitrine, features beautiful french polish with Parzinger's signature statement door handles. Signed with Charak Modern label on the backside of the upper cabinet. This refined and sophisticated Parzinger credenza with glass display hutch is perfect for those high-end luxury pads looking for an incredible and collectible statement piece, which Parzinger was known to create. The gorgeous color is close to the Hermès orange, but perhaps a little bit deeper and bolder - perhaps somewhere between Hermès orange and blood orange. Beauty in every detail, from the cross-cut glass panes, to the upper flared embellishments and the signature Parzinger door handles. Let's not skip one more aspect of this table that is equally important - the collectors appeal. Furniture by Tommi Parzinger is one of the most sought-after and cherished items of sophisticated collectors. This isn't for your typical Eames and George Nelson collector, it is much more for a refined collector, perhaps a connoisseur of fine rarities. The quality of the materials and craftsmanship and design details are something to be admired. Parzinger and Charak Modern designed and crafted some of the highest quality furniture of the early and mid 20th Century. That was at a time when US manufacturing was at its best. And now in this day and age of cheap products not meant to last - this table is your daily reminder that 'they don't make them like they used to.' We restored this incredible sideboard display cabinet with hand-applying a new French Polish lacquer. French Polish is the most laborious and expensive finish because it requires many repetitive coats and each one hand polished to a fine glass-like finish, and while it is very expensive, it is worth it for rare and valuable pieces like this Tommi Parzinger vitrine. The results are nothing short of spectacular - such a smooth, clear and deep finish - it looks almost like a sheet of glass (much more incredible in-person than you can see (or touch / feel) in the photos). And besides how incredible it looks - it will also protect your investment for the decades ahead. This Parzinger cabinet is an ideal example for the most discriminating interior designer client or collector. This french polish cabinet...

Josef Frank 'Gustav V' Cabinet in Rosewood, Svenskt Tenn, Sweden, 1950s
Located in The Hague, NL
This elegant rosewood cabinet was designed by Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn in the late 1930's. In the Svensk Tenn archive's furniture book, Estrid Ericson (the founder of Svenskt Tenn) has made a pencil sketch of the cabinet and written "designed for the King", Gustaf V, likely for his 80th birthday in 1938. So this particular model 792 also became known as the Gustav V model. The rare cabinet on offer here was produced by Svenskt Tenn in Sweden in the early 1950s. The model was usually produced in pyramid mahogany, only a few pieces were made in rosewood. The cabinet has double doors, veneered in mirorred rosewood, with a solid oak interior with a total of 10 pull-out drawers. Brass key and round brass door hinges...

Vintage and Antique Cabinets for Sale on 1stDibs

Although traditionally used in the bedroom to store garments that would not be hung in a closet, an antique or vintage cabinet can easily find a purpose in rooms throughout your entire house.

The world's first storage cabinets, reportedly constructed in Renaissance-era Europe, were demonstrative of excellence in carpentry and the work of master carvers. These robust bureaus or sophisticated chests of drawers were typically built from common woods, such as oak or walnut. Although they were fairly uniform in structure and lacked the bright colors of modern-day furniture, case pieces and storage cabinets that date from the 18th century and earlier were often found in the homes of nobility.

Their intricate carvings and various embellishments — adornments made from ivory, ornate lacquer work and, later, glass shelvings — reflect the elegance with which these decorative furnishings were associated. Given its valuable purpose and the beauty of the early furnishings' designs, the storage cabinet is an investment that will never go out of style.

The practical design that defines the earliest storage cabinets has inspired the creation of household must-haves, like minimalist drink trolleys and marble wood bookcases. From hiding outdoor gear in the mudroom to decluttering your kitchen with a tall kitchen pantry cabinet, these versatile furnishings have now become available in enough sizes, styles and colors to accommodate any space. After all, these aren't your run-of-the-mill filing cabinets.

A sophisticated storage cabinet — wood storage cabinets with doors and shelves, for example — can serve as a room divider when necessary, while the right vintage wall unit or floor-to-ceiling cabinetry solutions can seamlessly become part of any space without disrupting the energy of the room. And although you may hide items away in its drawers, bookworms might prefer a storage cabinet with open shelving for displaying favorite books or other media.

One-of-a-kind solutions for the modern consumer abound, but enthusiasts of understated, classical beauty may turn to Baroque-style storage cabinets. Elsewhere, admirers of mid-century modernism looking to make a statement with their case pieces will warm to the dark woods and clean lines of vintage storage cabinets by Paul McCobb, Florence Knoll or Edward Wormley.

Sometimes the best renovation is a reorganization. If you're ready to organize and elevate your space, a luxury storage cabinet is the addition you need.
