Abstract Painting Mixed Media in Gray-white-rust-black by Hassan Bourkia, 2008
Located in Salzburg, AT
Abstract Painting Mixed Media in gray-white-rust-black by Hassan Bourkia Marrakesh 2008 Hassan Bourkia was born on December 19, 1956 in El Ksiba, near Beni Mellal. He is a writer, translator and visual artist. He has been teaching literature since 1982 and exhibiting in the main art galleries in Morocco and in various places abroad since the early 1990s. He recently participated in the Buenos Aires Biennial of Contemporary Art (Bienalsur), and his works are in several large private collections and museums. Hassan Bourkia has been exploring the field of memory for several years to speak about the drama of immigration and the suffering caused by the trauma of conflicts around the world. Photograph Self-Portrait by Sam Taylor-Wood
Located in Atlanta, GA
A framed C-print photography by British artist Sam Taylor-Wood (1967-). Entitled "Self-Portrait in a Single-Breasted Suit with Hare", the print was made in 2001 and its unique in this size at 9" h x 6" w. Presented in a wood frame. Provenance: Matthew Marks Gallery, NYC (label verso). Artist Biography (courtesy of Guggenheim Musuem Collection) Sam Taylor-Wood B. 1967, LONDON Sam Taylor-Wood was born in London in 1967. At the age of sixteen, she enrolled in an art school in Hastings, later moving back to London to attend Goldsmiths College. After graduating in 1990, she worked as a bartender and as a dresser at the Royal Opera House; the latter experience would influence her work’s unabashed theatricality. Originally a sculptor, she began working in photography, film, and video in the early 1990s. Her first film, 16mm (1993), consists of an isolated female figure gyrating to a steady beat. She explored similar intersections between video, dance, theater, music, film, and video in subsequent works, including Killing Time (1994), in which seemingly bored actors wait their turn to lip-synch the lines of different characters from Richard Strauss’s Electra. Her photographic work also finds points of intersection with other mediums. The title of Five Revolutionary Seconds (1995–98), for example, refers to her creation of a panoramic image by rotating her camera around a room over that period of time; the resulting image has a narrative quality despite being a static image. In recent years, Taylor-Wood has engaged ideas of celebrity culture in her work. Third Party (1999–2000), a seven-screen video installation at the Hayward Gallery in London, featured pop singer Marianne Faithful and actor Ray Winstone in different one- and two-person scenes of flirtation and ennui, creating a party-like environment in the gallery where the viewer is privy to these personal exchanges. Equal parts pathos and humor, the two-minute film Pietà (2001), in which the artist attempts to suspend the Hollywood actor and hard-living icon Robert Downey, Jr. in her arms, also evokes the well-known art historical subject. Her video David (2004) evokes similar connotations and intimately unveils the much-photographed dynamic soccer icon David Beckham in deep sleep. Time and speed are often centerpieces of her videos, whether the rapid acceleration of a bowl of fruit’s decay process in Still Life (2001) or the illusion of frozen time in The Last Century (2006), for which the actors are in fact filmed in real time but remain impossibly still. Taylor-Wood’s first narrative film, Love You More (2008), borrows its title from a song by the 70s punk band Buzzcocks and chronicles the story of two teenagers who hear the recently released song together in a record store. Since her first show, Killing Time at the Showroom in London in 1994, Taylor-Wood has had solo exhibitions at White Cube in London (1995, 2001, 2004, and 2008), Kunsthalle Zürich (1997), Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C. (1999), Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid (2000), Centre National de la Photographie in Paris (2001), Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montréal (2002), Russian Museum in St. Petersburg (2004), Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney (2006), Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland (2007), and Museum of Contemporary Art in Houston...

Early Brian McKee Original Photography "Castle View", Afghanistan, 2002 Ed. 1/5
Located in East Hampton, NY
This early original photography by the late Brian McKee (1977-2018) of a war-torn Castle in Northern Afghanistan. This is a chromogenic print mounted on aluminum - Series 1 of 5, from 2002. Provenance: This amazing piece was purchased at Art Basel (Switzerland) in 2002 from Galerie Ernst Hilger (Vienna). Paperwork to be provided at time of purchase. THIS ITEM IS LOCATED AND WILL SHIP FROM OUR MIAMI, FLORIDA SHOWROOM. Biography Brian McKee was born in 1977 in Excelsior Springs, Missouri and attended the Interlochen Arts Academy and Bard College. While at Bard College he studied photography with Stephen Shore, Larry Fink and Barbara Ess as well as writing under John Ashbery whose assistant he was for more than three years. For five years he was the assistant to the photographer Lynn Davis. He lived and worked in New York City/USA, Vienna/Austria and Istanbul/Turkey. Brian McKee called himself “a visual historian” who ventured to “convey a unique and important view of select aspects of World History” with his photographs. “Within architecture and landscapes I find my true subject, the detritus of civilization, and seek to explore the way we define and relate to its existence. Although creating precisely composed and executed images I carefully chose projects that have a conceptual meaning and importance beyond their visual interest or beauty.” For the past 15 years McKee had focused on examining and visualizing a body of work that explored both the current and past social and political atmospheres of countries around the world. Photographing with an 8x10 inch Deardorff plate camera he composed poetic images, which conveyed a complex untold narrative embedded in an immaculate concept, which didn’t only exist for aesthetic purposes. He was fond of ”the idea that houses, buildings, towns and cities provide us with a true understanding of the cultures that inhabited those spaces. At the same time they are a reflection of the social, political and personal atmosphere that created them.” His signature subject of the rise and fall began 1999 when he photographed Soviet military...

The Velvet Underground & Nico, Unripened (LP), 2007
Located in Brooklyn, NY
The Velvet Underground & Nico The Velvet Underground & Nico Produced by Andy Warhol, Unripened, 2007 Vinyl, LP Label: Not On Label (The Velvet Underground) Country: Sweden Cover art designed by Andy Warhol Dimensions: 12 x 12 inches (30.48 x 30.48). Both the record and cover are in very good overall vintage condition. Well suited for framing. Though The Velvet Underground existed for less than three years with its original members, it is considered to be not just the ‘ultimate New York band’ but also the most influential group ever. Artists who have acknowledged such influence include David Bowie, The Sex Pistols, Patti Smith, Joy Division and Nirvana. Witts places the band and its genesis in the cultural context of Manhattan’s beatnik bohemianism, its radical artistic environment, and the city’s negative reaction to California’s ‘Hippie’ counterculture. Lou Reed’s song factory background is also considered, while his Primitives (1964-5) and Velvet Underground songs (1965-70) are examined within the stylistic context of rock music. The band’s sound world is likewise considered in this light. John Cale’s experimental contribution is assessed, especially his work for LaMonte Young (The Theatre of Eternal Music) and what he carried from that experience into the Velvet’s sound. The visual artist Andy Warhol became the band’s manager and producer in 1965. He placed his ‘superstar’ Nico in the line-up (which already included a female drummer). The radical nature of the group’s Warhol period performances are examined, together with those aspects related to issues of gender, sexuality and drugs culture...
