Cartier Style Emerald Cut Sapphire Crystal Brooch, Ear Crawler Demi Parure–1950s
Located in Tucson, AZ
Though it is over a half century old, this exquisite earring and brooch set is as chunky, relevant and wearable as any modern costume jewelry. Fiery and brilliant, their centerpieces are their single emerald-cut crystals, which resemble Cartier gemstones. The surrounding light and dark blue faceted rhinestones gather and reflect further light for a set of remarkable glamour and substance. Curved ear crawlers featuring ¾” emerald-cut crystals surrounded by 4 and 6 mm faceted blue rhinestones; clip backs. Matching solitaire brooch with 1 1/8” wide emerald-cut crystal surrounded by 4 mm faceted blue rhinestones; rollover safety clasp. **please note: when light is shone through from behind, brooch crystal is a brighter, more vibrant blue than large crystals in earrings, but this color difference is virtually eliminated when brooch is worn. This suggests the earrings and brooch were a mismatched set...

The “petals” were meticulously crafted by using embossing and hammering techniques. Each petal is topped with a diamond. Two circled rows of diamonds are embellishing the top of the flower and hugging the pearl. The stem of the flower is high-polished gold. There are four diamonds set on a wavy leave sitting on the stem. This full of dynamic vintage gold brooch pin was made as a true piece of art, with close attention to details and extraordinary skills. This vintage brooch is made of 14 karat yellow gold (tested) and features a golden South Sea pearl accented with diamonds. The pearl measures 12.3 x 13.8 mm. The diamonds are round brilliant cut and single cut, champagne color and VS-SI1 clarity, total weight approximately 2.32 carats. This vintage 14k gold brooch measures 2 3/8” x 1 ½” (8.5 x 3.7 cm) and weighs 23.7 grams. About Vintage Brooches: Since we started making our very first steps into the jewelry world, vintage brooches and pins have always been our favorite pieces. Wearing a brooch is a smart, unique way to express your personality and style. Pin it to your lapel, scarf or a bag, and with just one brooch alone you can create the whole new fashion piece out of any garment or accessory. Some brooches could be worn as pendants, so you get two pieces in one. A brooch is an amazing jewel that is fun, elegant and expressive at the same time. About Vintage Jewelry: Vintage jewelry is something we can talk about for days. Since the subject is that big and has multiple aspects to discuss, we’d like to focus on the most important parts of it. So, what is vintage jewelry? Why it’s so appealing? And how to buy...

Antique and Vintage Brooches

Antique and vintage brooches, which are decorative jewels traditionally pinned to garments and used to fasten pieces of clothing together where needed, have seen increasing popularity in recent years.

Given their long history, brooches have expectedly taken on a variety of different shapes and forms over time, with jewelers turning to assorted methods of ornamentation for these accessories, including enameling and the integration of pearls and gemstones.

Cameo brooches that originated during the Victorian age are characterized by a shell carved in raised relief that feature portraits of a woman’s profile, while 19th-century micromosaic brooches, comprising innumerable individually placed glass fragments, sometimes feature miniature depictions of a pastoral scene in daily Roman life.

At one time, brooches were symbols of wealth, made primarily from the finest metals and showcasing exquisite precious gemstones. Today, these jewels are inclusive and universal, and you don’t have to travel very far to find an admirer of brooches. They can be richly geometric in form, such as the ornate diamond pins dating from the Art Deco era, or designer-specific, such as the celebrated naturalistic works created by Tiffany & Co., the milk glass and gold confections crafted by Trifari or handmade vintage Chanel brooches of silk or laminated sheer fabric.

Brooches are versatile and adaptable. These decorative accessories can be worn in your hair, on hats, scarves and on the lower point of V-neck clothing. Pin a dazzling brooch to the lapel of your blazer-and-tee combo or add a cluster of smaller pins to your overcoat. And while brooches have their place in “mourning jewelry,” in that a mourning brooch is representative of your connection to a lost loved one, they’re widely seen as romantic and symbolic of love, so much so that a hardcore brooch enthusiast might advocate for brooches to be worn over the heart.

Today, find a wide variety of antique and vintage brooches on 1stDibs, including gold brooches, sapphire brooches and more.
