Untitled Nude, from Atelier International Portfolio by renowned realist artist
Located in New York, NY
Philip Pearlstein Untitled Nude, from Atelier International Portfolio, 1985 Etching. on wove paper Hand signed, numbered 78/85, and dated on the lower front with printer's and publisher's blind stamps. 30 × 22 1/2 inches Unframed This vintage (mid 1980s) etching by Philip Pearlstein is hand signed, numbered and dated from the edition of 85. The late Philip Pearlstein is one of the most renowned realist painters in the world, but has become best recognized of late as Andy Warhol's former roommate in Pittsburgh, who traveled together with Warhol to New York. The Warhol museum in fact hosted a show of the two unlikely artists and roommates. Philip Pearlstein Born in 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, Philip Pearlstein died in 2022. He is considered to be one of the masters of new figuration and modernist realism. He has been examining the question of how the model is represented since the 1960s, his complex works straddling the line between naturalism, abstraction and hyperrealism. His still lives in oil feature nudes with mask...

Neil Welliver at O'Farrel Gallery poster
Located in New York, NY
Neil Welliver at O'Farrel Gallery poster, 1998 Offset lithograph 24 × 18 inches Unframed This offset lithograph poster was published on the occasion of Neil Welliver's exhibition at O'Farrell Gallery from July 17 to September 5, 1998. The depicted painting on the poster is Neil Welliver, Marsh Shadow, 1986. Publisher O'Farrell Gallery, Brunswick, Maine About Neil Welliver: Neil Welliver (American, 1929-2005) is best known for his large-scale, vivid paintings and woodcuts of the remote Maine wilderness. Born in the small town of Millville, Pennsylvania, he first studied at the Philadelphia College of Art (1953), followed by Yale (1955), where Josef Albers and Burgoyne Diller were among his teachers. Their influence, as well as the rising popularity of Abstract Expressionism, is evident from Welliver’s early experimentations in abstraction, which include elements of color field painting, as well as the color theory of Albers, and the flattened, “allover” space of Pollock and de Kooning. Welliver would go on to teach at Yale from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s, by which time he had moved formally towards the representational, beginning to paint the landscape of Maine. In the late 1960s and early 70s he also produced scenes of nude bathers in streams, their bodies abstracted by the moving water. While continuing to work as the chair of the University of Pennsylvania graduate school (1966-1989), he moved permanently to Lincolnville, Maine, in 1970. Welliver lost his studio, home, and much of his work to a fire in 1975. The following year, his second wife and infant daughter died. Further tragedy came with the death of his college aged son in 1991. His artistic practice remained the mode through which he survived these hardships. By the 1980s he was painting landscapes almost exclusively. The resulting body of work nods to many of Welliver’s early influences, as he utilizes natural repetitions and distortions to represent the innate abstraction of the natural world. These mature works are based on long plein-air studies, where Welliver would carry a 70-pound pack of painting supplies into remote landscapes, and sit for three hours at a time. He continued to paint the landscape surrounding his large property in Maine until his death in 2005. Welliver was a member of the National Academy of Design, and received notable awards from the Guggenheim Foundation and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. His work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, among others. - Courtesy of Alexandre Gallery

St. Regis River Grasses, New York, a large Cibachrome Direct Positive Photograph - 8"x10" Deardorff Camera using Positive Slide Film. Powerful Large Cibachrome Photograph of the St Regis River, Adirondacks, New York by Nathan Farb (American, B- 1941). Working with a large 8" x 10" View Camera Nathan began a journey to really photograph his home in the mountains is his own way, rich in vibrant with exceptional detail. Cibachrome prints are a type of dye destruction print that use a photographic process to create a full-color image. The process involves selectively bleaching away color dyes embedded in the paper. The dyes are contained within emulsion layers, which give the print its characteristic color saturation. The base is a polyester triacetate, rather than fiber-based paper, which adds to the print's longevity Image, 29"H x 37"W Sheet, 30"H x 40"W x .05 Unmounted and unframed. Can be shipped rolled. Includes book "The Adirondacks" which contains similar photographs by the artist. In 1981, Farb returned to his childhood home in the Adirondack Mountains to recharge himself, spending a lot of time in the woods. Over the next 20 years, he produced three books published by Rizzoli cataloguing many of his finest 8”x10” negatives. That work has been excerpted by close to 100 magazines including The NY Times Magazine. NY Times Magazine then sent him to document the Exxon oil spill and the Yellowstone Fires, and to the Galapagos Islands twice. Searching for both his past and future, Nathan Farb bought his first camera and started shooting on the streets of NYC’s Lower East Side in 1966. This work was presented as “The Other Summer of Love,” in “Lens”, the NY Times’ photography blog in 2017. In 1971 his political multimedia work “Lockport” was shown at The Public Theater...

Peter Handel - "Karina In Front Of Porsche" - giclée print - nude - signed
Located in Winterswijk, NL
Peter Handel - "Karina In Front Of Porsche". Giclée on Hahnemühle Velvet, handsigned. High-quality art print after the original painting: Peter Handel transforms nude photographs painterly into highly realistic, subjective images. Light and shadow, plasticity and form are modulated with several layers as well as glazing application: The compositions refer to the person depicted and give her an individual presence, so that the person and not the object is accentuated here. A beautiful artwork that looks good in every room and especially in the living room or bedroom. About Peter Handel: Peter Handel is an artist of international format and was born in 1949 in Anklam, East Germany. 1968 - 1971 studied art and sports, 1977 - 1982 teaching position at the GHS Duisburg, since 1979 freelance artist. Handels' art developed out of the American photorealism movement of the 1970s, in which the visual reality of everyday life is depicted realistically, without the intervention of emotion. He transforms his nude photographs into hyper-realistic paintings and graphics that play with the mutual conditionality of reality-representing or reality-simulating images and media art. Through meticulous imitation, Handel thus reflects on the photographic image and its sign-like quality, often on an additional level of reality when there are apparently pasted or hung photographs next to the painted level. The encounter with the painter Peter Handel reveals an old-masterly skill. In the creative process of the highly realistic nudes, light and shadow, plasticity and form are modulated with several layers as well as by glazing application. Handel slowly approaches his painting and in a subjective way arrives at an independent result. Fascinated by the possibilities of painting, Handel confronts and discusses different levels of reality - realistic and idealistic - leaving behind the objective level of pure depiction. Peter Handel's works are represented in numerous exhibitions: 1972 - 1975 Wilhelm Lehmbruck...

Accompanied by ARTIST SIGNED, gallery issued Certificate of Authenticity (COA) - hand signed by BOTH the artist and gallery director 23.5" (vertical) x 29.25" (horizontal) Hand signed, titled, annotated & dated on the lower right front - a rare Artists Proof, aside from the limited edition of 75 Unframed This magnificent silkscreen, Meeting Plaza is signed, dated and numbered in graphite pencil on the front from the limited edition of 75. Other examples of this work were exhibited in the 2021 show "New York and No Place Else: Art that Celebrates New York" at the Chashama Foundation, New York, and it was also featured in the invitational exhibition "Women on Paper" in April, 2021 at the Sager Reeves Gallery in Columbia, Missouri. "Meeting Plaza" is a place where people from all over the world are always welcome to meet in peace and enjoyment; an exquisite 25-color limited edition silkscreen done in collaboration with master printer Gary Lichtenstein. The work is evocative of New York's Rockefeller Center and the United Nations, but the flags are abstracted, to emphasize international unity, rather than single out any individual country. The artist explained: "I wanted to convey a city that welcomed all nationalities and all people… The flags for me are a counterpoint to the city’s geometric architecture, and their suggested movement and irregular shapes echo the organic morphology of the people below. I painted an evening sky. It is dusk. Nobody is rushing. People are conversing with each other, walking slowly or gathering in small groups enjoying a calm evening in the New York City…I, too, am one of the people converging at the 'Meeting Plaza' ...” Other examples of "Meeting Plaza" were exhibited in the 2021 show "New York and No Place Else: Art that Celebrates New York" at the Chashama Foundation, New York, and the print was featured in the invitational exhibition "Women on Paper" in April, 2021 at the Sager Reeves Gallery in Columbia, Missouri. Fine Art Prints for Sale — Animal Prints, Abstract Prints, Nude Prints and Other Prints

Decorating with fine art prints — whether they’re figurative prints, abstract prints or another variety — has always been a practical way of bringing a space to life as well as bringing works by an artist you love into your home.

Pursued in the 1960s and ’70s, largely by Pop artists drawn to its associations with mass production, advertising, packaging and seriality, as well as those challenging the primacy of the Abstract Expressionist brushstroke, printmaking was embraced in the 1980s by painters and conceptual artists ranging from David Salle and Elizabeth Murray to Adrian Piper and Sherrie Levine.

Printmaking is the transfer of an image from one surface to another. An artist takes a material like stone, metal, wood or wax, carves, incises, draws or otherwise marks it with an image, inks or paints it and then transfers the image to a piece of paper or other material.

Fine art prints are frequently confused with their more commercial counterparts. After all, our closest connection to the printed image is through mass-produced newspapers, magazines and books, and many people don’t realize that even though prints are editions, they start with an original image created by an artist with the intent of reproducing it in a small batch. Fine art prints are created in strictly limited editions — 20 or 30 or maybe 50 — and are always based on an image created specifically to be made into an edition.

Many people think of revered Dutch artist Rembrandt as a painter but may not know that he was a printmaker as well. His prints have been preserved in time along with the work of other celebrated printmakers such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí and Andy Warhol. These fine art prints are still highly sought after by collectors.

“It’s another tool in the artist’s toolbox, just like painting or sculpture or anything else that an artist uses in the service of mark making or expressing him- or herself,” says International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA) vice president Betsy Senior, of New York’s Betsy Senior Fine Art, Inc.

Because artist’s editions tend to be more affordable and available than his or her unique works, they’re more accessible and can be a great opportunity to bring a variety of colors, textures and shapes into a space.

For tight corners, select small fine art prints as opposed to the oversized bold piece you’ll hang as a focal point in the dining area. But be careful not to choose something that is too big for your space. And feel free to lean into it if need be — not every work needs picture-hanging hooks. Leaning a larger fine art print against the wall behind a bookcase can add a stylish installation-type dynamic to your living room. (Read more about how to arrange wall art here.)
