Sam Francis’s paintings are a journey into a dream, a voyage into the landscapes of the soul where colours are lights on fire. Alongside names such as Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and Franz Kline, Sam Francis is an artist who has succeeded in demonstrating a total mastery of abstract expressionism’s impassioned and spontaneous genre. The explosions of colour – red, blue, green and yellow – the streaks, strokes and bold lines of his pictures are the physical synthesis of the deepest crevices of the soul. His colours create rhythmical motifs that, characteristically enough, can be called the “musicality” of his paintings. The work of Sam Francis provides a visible meeting place for the conscious and the unconscious. His pictures are the cross-fertilisation of what has already been experienced with what exists still only as desire, a struggle between melancholy and merrymaking. Influenced by C.G. Jung, the father of psychoanalysis, Sam Francis spent a large portion of his life exploring the premise that dreams, instincts and intuition provide, the keys which unlock the mysteries and meaning of our inner lives. He was also fascinated by the four ancient elements – earth, water, air and fire – which developed into a leitmotif in his work. Sam Francis was born in San Mateo in California, USA in 1923. After starting to paint at the age of around twenty, he soon found himself increasingly consumed by the power of art. He spent much of the 1950s in Paris, from where he not only made frequent excursions to a number of European cities, but also embarked on many journeys to South America and Asia. The artwork represents a circular shape surrounded by an abstract composition. The technique is very unique: xilograph on canvas; the artist uses only two colors for this piece: black and gold. In the center, there is a black sun. The composition instills a sense of serenity, but also of mystery. The artwork is reminiscent of the Mediterranean culture. Laura D'Andrea travelled frequently through the Mediterranean lands: her artworks, indeed, express a great sensation of freedom and a focused interest in oriental cultures. Laura D’Andrea is an Italian artist and engraver. She was born in Sicily where she currently lives and works. She studied printing and xylography at the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome and Urbino and Philosophy and Literature at the University of Grenoble. His first exhibition has been “La mia Sicilia” (My Sicily) in 1969 at Galleria Flaccovio in Palermo where, a few years later, she exhibited with “Hippies a Londra” (Hippies in London). In the 1980’s, she moved to Il Cairo in Egypt, where she studied Arabic calligraphy and she had the possibility to realize a series of graphic works that has been exhibited at the Egypt Academy of Rome. During that years, she started an artistic research through the historical Sicilian Baroque art and culture. Between 1986 and 1988, she exhibited with the solo show “L’Immaginario nel Barocco” (The Baroque Culture) at the Galleria Artivisive in Rome, at the Museum and Library of Ursino and Recupero in Sicily and at the European Parliament in Strasbourgh. In 2002 she exhibited with “Memoria Greca nel Mediterraneo” (Greek memory in the Mediterranean Sea) in Sicily. In 2007, she exhibited in Rome and in Saudi Arabia. Between 2011 and 2015, she started to explore the world of jazz music that will become an important subject of her future artworks; during that years she exhibited her works in England and in Belgium. Her artworks are a leap in the Mediterranean Sea, between Sicilian and Arab culture; Laura D’Andrea is a lover of the jazz music, through her canvases we can hear the sound of ancient and far places and people. Other important details of her work the calligraphy and the Archeoscrittura. Archeoscrittura is a trend that involves artists exploring into their genetic memory and finding signs of archaic scripture. Laura D'Andrea finds her inspiration in the depths of her personal memory, and in the study and influence of the signs and symbols of the Archaic writing in the Mediterranean. Her works can be found in the Museum of Modern Art Pecci in Florence, in the Museum of woodcut Carpi in Modena, in the Museum of Modern Art Maga of Varese, in the Museum of Modern Art of Valencia in Spain, and in the Museum of Art Mart of Trento and Rovereto in the donation of Mirella Bentivoglio.

It is in very good, never-framed condition with no flaws to note. Jean Marie Haessle was born in Buhl, Haut-Rhin, France. After living for a few years in Paris, he moved to New York City in 1967 where he still works and lives in his studio on Spring Street in Soho. Over the years, he had numerous shows in the US, New York, Miami, Texas and California, France and Italy (see the resume). In the mid-80’s he worked for a period in France (Paris, Lyon, and Cannes). In the late 90’s he worked in Mexico (San Miguel de Allende) where he had a one person show in 1997 in the Museo de Art in Queretaro. He had a survey exhibition of the last 30 years of his work at the Korean University Museum, Seoul, Korea in spring 2014 and a major one person show in the Namu Modern &Contemporary gallery in Seoul in September of the same year. This is done in a Postmodernist, Memphis Milano style. Valerio Adami (born 17 March 1935) is an Italian painter. Educated at the Accademia di Brera in Milan, he has since worked in both London and Paris. His art is influenced by Pop Art. Adami was born in Bologna. In 1945, at the age of ten, he began to study painting under the instruction of Felice Carena. He was accepted into the Brera Academy (Accademia di Brera) in 1951, and there studied as a draughtsman until 1954 in the studio of Achille Funi. In 1955 he went to Paris, where he met and was influenced by Roberto Matta and Wifredo Lam. His first solo exhibition came in 1959 in Milan. In his early career, Adami's works were expressionistic, but by the time of his second exhibition in 1964 at Kassel, he had developed a style of painting reminiscent of French cloisonnism, featuring regions of flat color bordered by black lines. Unlike Gauguin, however, Adami's subjects were highly stylized and often presented in fragments. In the 1970s, Adami began to address politics in his art, and incorporated subject matter such as modern European history, literature, philosophy, and mythology. In 1971, he and his brother Giancarlo created the film Vacances dans le désert. In 1974 he illustrated a Helmut Heissenbuttel poem, Occasional Poem No. 27. In 1975, the philosopher Jacques Derrida devoted a long essay, "+R: Into the Bargain", to Adami's work, using an exhibition of Adami's drawings as a pretext to discuss the function of "the letter and the proper name in painting", with reference to "narration, technical reproduction, ideology, the phoneme, the biographeme, and politics". The Galerie Maeght is a gallery of modern art in Paris, France, and Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The gallery was founded in 1936 in Cannes. The Paris gallery was started in 1946 by Aimé Maeght. The artists exhibited are mainly from France and Spain. Since 1945, the gallery has presented the greatest modern artists such as Matisse, Bonnard, Braque, Miró, and Calder. In 1956, Adrien Maeght opened a new parisian venue. The second generation of “Maeght” artists was born: Bazaine, Andre Derain, Giacometti, Kelly, Raoul Ubac, then Riopelle, Antoni Tapies, Pol Bury and Adami, among others. There were four retrospective exhibits of Adami's work between 1985 and 1998. They were held in Paris, the Centre Julio-Gonzalez de Valence (Spain), Tel Aviv, and Buenos Aires. He is a master of serigraph printing, but this print has more than technical excellence. It is a wonderful, rhythmic abstract composition. I believe Chemeche might have been a proponent of and/or influenced by the Pattern and Decoration Movement which was happening in New York in the 1970s and 1980s. The print has never been framed and is in very good condition. I will ship the print rolled in a heavyweight tube. George Chemeche was born in 1934 and studied at the Avni Art School in Tel Aviv and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. The style with which he is intimately associated, pattern painting, The most serviceable definition is that pattern is the systematic repetition of a motif or motifs used to cover a surface uniformly. The spaces between motifs are either other motifs or are an integral part of the repeat. Usually, patterning intentionally acknowledges the decorative function of art, reconciling both the decorative and the meaningful.
