Silkscreen Day Glo Fluorescent Japanese Gyu-chan Neo Dada Art Print Birdie Litho
Located in Surfside, FL
19 x 15.5 with backing 12 x 12 image
Ushio Shinohara (born 1932, Tokyo), nicknamed “Gyu-chan”, is a Japanese Neo-Dadaist artist. His bright, large work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Centre Georges Pompidou, the Guggenheim Museum SoHo, National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, Leo Castelli Gallery, New York, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Seoul and others. Shinohara and his wife, Noriko, are the subjects of a documentary film by Zachary Heinzerling called Cutie and the Boxer (2013).
Shinohara's parents instilled in him a love for painters such as Paul Cézanne, Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin. His father was a tanka poet who was taught by Wakayama Bokusui. Shinohara’s mother was a painter who went to the Woman’s Art University (Joshibijutsu Daigaku) in Tokyo.
In 1952 Shinohara entered the Tokyo Art University (later renamed to Tokyo University of the Arts), majoring in oil painting, however he left before graduation in 1957.
In 1960 Shinohara participated in a group called "Neo-Dada Organizers". (Masunobu Yoshimura, Genpei Akasegawa, Shusaku Arakawa, Ushio Shinohara, Sho Kazakura, Tomio Miki, Tetsumi Kudo, Natsuyuki Nakanishi) This group of artists showed their works of art in an exhibition in the 1960s called the Yomiuri Independent Exhibition. This exhibition was sponsored by a newspaper, was open to the public, and was not judged by anyone. This type of exhibition was a form of an anti-salon and was a stepping stone for Shinohara’s sculptures of found objects which acquired the label of “junk art...

Large Bus by Allen Jones classic British 1960s pop art in bright primary colors
By Allen Jones
Located in New York, NY
This large Allen Jones lithograph is printed exuberantly in primary colors. A swath of bright red brushstrokes represents the side of a bus. In the upper left, small windows reveal the passengers: a woman’s face is cut off above her vampy red lips, and a blue-haired man’s face is hidden. Royal blue fills the upper right corner of the composition, giving the impression of looking up at a passing bus against the cloudless sky. One can imagine Jones was thinking of the iconic red double decker bus the AEC Routemaster, first introduced in London in 1954. In the 1960s buses were a living symbol of familiar and new technology coexisting: as David Bucken put it, “In and around London a midpoint change on a journey might involve alighting from an RT bus, of which production had started just prior to World War II, and getting on one of the sexy new Routemasters.”
In the artist’s words: “The whole problem as a figurative artist was that it was going against the main march of modernism, which was towards abstraction. But here was a way of making the subject you were painting the same as the object you were painting on. By making the canvas a rhomboid, and putting little wheels on it, you have a schematic version of a vehicle, in this case a
London bus.” Jones plays with the space between abstraction and figuration: windowed passengers, elaborated with just a few lines and placed adjacent to a weighty red ground of brushstrokes, easily convey the form of a bus, yet the print also conveys Jones’ visceral, painterly delight in color play.

Les Essències de la Terra - Lithograph by Joan Mirò - 1968
By Joan Miró
Located in Roma, IT
Les Essències de la Terra is an original artwork realized by Joan Miró in 1968. The photolithography is part of a portfolio that includes eight Catalan texts from the 16th and 17th centuries, illustrated with plates (6 in colors and 8 in black, of which 6 in two pages) mainly printed in photolithograph after compositions by Joan Miró. Complete with the publisher's cloth-covered folder. Editions Poligrafa, Barcelona. Very good conditions.
Reference:
Patrick Cramer, Joan Miró, Catalogue Raisonné des Livres Illustrés, Editeur P. Cramer, Genève 1989, n. 123.
Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 – Palma de Majorca, 1983) was a Catalan painter and artist. He combined Abstractionism with Surrealism. He produced many lithographs and numerous murals, tapestries, and sculptures for public spaces. In the 1920s, Miró combined detailed figures with abstract landscapes and began taking objects out from their natural contexts to reassemble them in a new mysterious way. In the 1930s, during the Spanish Civil War, he moved to France. During World War II, he returned to Spain, where he began painting the famous Constellations (1941). At the end of the 1940s, Miró traveled back and forth between Spain and France and created some of his most spontaneous artworks. After World War II, he became famous internationall...

'Untitled' original 1960s signed serigraph silver abstract vintage train pop art
Located in Milwaukee, WI
In this untitled serigraph, Vincent DiMattio combines the aesthetics of the space age with Pop Art sensibilities and techniques. In the postwar era of the 1950s and 1960s, the United States was in the midst of a period of economic growth for the middle class, and so the trappings and imagery of middle class life became the subjects of a number of artists. While figures like Andy Warhol focused on images of celebrities and soup cans, here DiMattio looks to robots and rockets. At the far left, a figure appears with a round green head and a small clamping arm. To the right, a form like a tank with phallic protrusions, one with a head like the form of a space ship. These signs all alight with the space age toys...
