Machine Age Cubist Art Deco Tray, Designed by Donald Dohner for Westinghouse
By Donald Dohner, Westinghouse
Located in New York, NY
This Micarta tray features a deep burgundy center circumscribed by a raised and reeded black border. Three silvered bands made of inlaid and anodized aluminum cut across the center. They are intersected by a single ray in the same shade that extends from the furthermost band to the edge of the circle/rim. An aquamarine demilune form occupies the space at the right-angled joint where the vertical bands and horizontal line meet. The piece was designed by Donald Dohner- the in-house Art Director for Westinghouse and a Pioneer in Industrial applied art. With its iconically Art Deco design and employment of 1930s Industrial materials, this piece represents a great find for any collector of the period. Furthermore, it is a visually compelling tray, perfect as a bar accessory or serving platter. Marked on the reverse "Westinghouse Micarta...
