Eytan Brandes designed this ring using various elements he likes from Edwardian engagement rings, such as the carinated shank, the coin-edged pavé setting plates, and the elevated, almost bombé face. This is the second time he has used this mounting, and this is the first time he's set it entirely in diamonds.
The center prong-set diamond is a clean and beautiful brilliant cut round stone weighing 1.03 carats. The prongs rise from a band (not actually a bezel) around the stone, minimizing the prongy effect, and keeping the stone's elevation at a graceful minimum.
The dramatically curved face of the mounting is made up of little coin-edged plates, joined from below. Each plate hosts between one and five stones meticulously set by our best gem-setter.
The little banner-shaped plates around the center stone give it a whimsical eight-pointed star halo, while the long plates...

This large and sexy pendant was a brooch that's been sitting in the safe since dinosaurs roamed the earth. Eytan Brandes always liked the color of the gold and the contrast with the stones, but he didn't really like it as a piece of jewelry until he conceived of hanging it face down as a pendant.
The leaves are highly detailed with veins and texture, and their outer edges are polished to give them definition, but the inner surfaces manage to be frosty and matte at the same time, giving the gold a pale, slightly rosy appearance. The citrine berries, on their polished stalks really pop against this background.
The leaves are gathered by a ribbon, complete with a "fibrous" Florentine finish.
The back is high polish and almost as beautiful as the front.
The hidden bale is located behind one of the stems and is large enough to accommodate most chain hardware.
We've paired it with a 17" long necklace of polished and faceted 4mm lapis beads. The closure is a 14 karat gold box...

Four different components came together to make this sexy 14 karat yellow gold chain.
The curb chain itself is standard jeweler's inventory that's been kicking around the store for a few years. Eytan Brandes removed the lobster clasp and added the toggle, which is newly cast from an antique silver toggle.
For the end ring, he pried one of the rings off of a boring brooch -- one of those pins where a cluster of rings makes a kind of wreath.
The ring looks great -- it's thick and has squared edges -- but it's hollow and too lightweight to stand up to the solid toggle. (Strangulation alert!)
Rather than lose the ring, Eytan decided to add some weight. The tassel -- from his mysterious pile of 1950's gold tassels acquired several years ago -- is his happy solution. It moves freely from a large matching bale and is the perfect finishing touch!

Eytan Brandes made the halo frames for these earrings before picking out the center stone because he knew wanted to use orange sapphires, which he loves, but wasn't sure what would look best inside a ring of these fiery little bad boys.
It turns out EVERYTHING looks good in an orange sapphire halo. But what ultimately won the day were these two gorgeous 16mm shimmery blue-gray mabe pearls.
We call these our Serendipity earrings because it was just by idle chance that Eytan happen to spy a pair of dated clip-ons that have been sitting in his pearl drawer for about a century. And it was a minor miracle that they fit his new halos perfectly -- like they've been sitting in that drawer all these years waiting for Eytan to save them from fusty, dusty, musty clip-on purgatory!
The 56 sapphires -- totaling 0.99 carats -- are natural, faceted and meticulously hand-set with tiny beads, pavé-style. The closures are simple shepherd wires.

The workmanship is incredible. Every stone -- all 219 of them -- is neatly backholed. Every petal and every ribbon is different. The stones vary minutely in size to perfectly accommodate their particular component.
The fierce green emerald pear cabochons show typical inclusions. One is darker and slightly larger than the other, just as the earrings themselves are not carbon copies of each other. The lighter emerald shows a small abrasion near the upper left prong. The estimated weights of these beautiful old souls are 3.2 carats and 2.8 carats. Given their age and intense color, we think it's safe to assume they're Colombian...

Eytan Brandes designed this ring using various elements he likes from Edwardian engagement rings, such as the carinated band, the coin-edged pavé setting plates, and the elevated, almost puffy face. But while a ring like this would traditionally be set with diamonds, Eytan gave it a more striking, contemporary look by setting it entirely in sapphires.
The center prong-set sapphire is a nearly round oval. To maximize both its color and its sparkle, a mixed cut has been used (i.e., the crown is brilliant cut, while the pavilion is a step cut). Included with the ring is a GIA report authenticating the stone as a natural, heat-treated sapphire weighing 1.99 carats.

The prongs and frame are in 18 karat yellow gold to accentuate the stone's pale yellow hue; the strong yellow of the frame also creates interesting transitional contrast with the bright white of the halo diamonds. The undergirding and band are in brushed satin platinum -- muting the shine helps delineate the individual stones and their bright white sparkle. The overall effect is a graceful white-to-yellow spectrum -- the considered product of a jeweler's homage to the beautiful pale hue of this gorgeous stone.
The popularity of "fancy yellow" diamonds has been accompanied by the inevitable proliferation of artificial enhancements -- especially irradiation and the use of 24 karat gold backings -- to juke otherwise light yellow diamonds into an unnatural shade most often associated with police tape and taxicabs. We think a pale natural yellow diamond is beautiful as-is.
The stone comes with a GIA certificate dated August 18, 2018 (#6193551278) verifying its color (O-P), clarity (VS2) and size (3.55 carats).
