Gebrüder Thonet Vienna Feng Three Folding Screen by Testatonda

About the Item

This screen is born as a collaboration with the Testatonda studio, a group of three young designers that the company has decided to focus on. Their aim is to design furniture and objects that combine functionality and sophistication, shaping the present by taking inspiration from the creative, but also repetitive and research work of the artisan world. For GTV, they have designed a screen named FENG, a project that stems from their desire to approach the concept of shibumi, a Japanese word that translates as "discreet beauty", and which lies at the heart of their design process. A discreet beauty encapsulated in the harmonious design of the contours, in the simplicity of the materials and in the elegance of the details, elements which combine to create an object with a soul that is anything but discreet and capable of asserting itself in any space. The lacquered wooden posts rest firmly on distinctive brass feet, and the central sail unfolds almost inflated by the wind, challenging the linearity of the design. Hence the choice of a name inspired by the Chinese translation of folding screen "ping feng", where feng stands for "wind or breeze". Finally, its modularity is particularly interesting. The sails, with two or three modules, extend horizontally and, depending on the composition and direction chosen, are a decorative element capable of creating different geometric effects. Edo Landscape Japanese Folding Screen
By Japanese Studio
Located in Brescia, IT
Refined work by a painter from the first half of the 19th century, from the landscape of the "Rinpa" school by a painter from the end of the 18th century, the Rinpa school. Six panels painted in ink on gold leaf and "gofun" on vegetable paper. The flowers are made with the "gofun" technique, natural or pigmented white oyster powder. Rinpa is one of the major historical schools of Japanese painting. The style was consolidated by the brothers Ogata Korin (1658–1716) and Ogata Kenzan (1663–1743). This folding screen has a very clean design that leaves plenty of room for the beautiful golden landscape. It comes flat and you can easily hang it with our hooks. Lucio Morini...
