About the Item
A beautiful patina has developed over the centuries. The beautiful, wave-like grain shimmers and dances, while a soft glow seems to emanate from just below the surface. Also present within the grain are much sought after "ghost faces" at well spaced intervals.
The simple and elegant form belies the fact that only a master craftsman, working with a piece of flawless and well-seasoned timber would have been able to create this study in refinement.
Huanghuali (lit. "yellow flowering pear wood") is a tropical hardwood long revered by the Chinese nobility and literati as one of the most desirable and precious hardwoods for furniture and objects to grace the scholar's desk.
