Large Blue and White with 'Rockwork and Flowers' Dish, Qing dynasty
Located in seoul, KR
This dish features a rockwork design that was popular during the Mid to Late Ming dynasties. The blue-and-white underglaze effectively captures the vibrant tones typical of the late Ming and early Qing periods. The detailed depiction of flowers, leaves, and rockwork is both rich and vivid. Due to its excavation from the seabed, the glaze in the central area shows signs of wear, particularly compared to the more preserved sides of the dish. Although it was soaked in hot water to remove the salt at the time of acquisition, slight salt residue remains on the surface. Period : Qing Dynasty(Presumably Kangxi or Yongzheng Period) Type : Dish Medium : Blue and White glaze Condition : Excellent(slight salt residue remains on the surface, and the glaze is worn primarily around the edges.) Provenance: Southeast Asia, South China Sea from Shipwreck in early 2000s Reference : 1) Christies Newyork 22 MAR 2018 - The Studio of the Clear Garden: Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art - Lot 604 (Price realised : USD 732,500 / Type : related - Ming style) 2) Sotheby's London 4 November 2020 - Imperial Porcelain – A Private Collection - Lot 19 (Price realised : GBP 75,600 / Type : related - Yuan style) 3) Asian Art Museum, San Francisco - Object number B60P88 (Type : related - Ming style) 4) Art Institute Chicago - Reference Number 1997.390 - Large Foliate Dish with Garden Rock and Plants (Type : Closely related) * Yuan-Ming Style from Qing Dynasty During the Qing dynasty, many ceramics were produced that imitated the styles of the Ming and Yuan dynasties. This practice was not mere imitation but a creative endeavor to inherit and innovate upon past techniques and styles. Qing dynasty ceramicists mastered the exceptional techniques of Ming and Yuan ceramics and used them as a foundation to develop more advanced works. Particularly, Yuan dynasty blue and white porcelain...

Kaneshige Toyo National Treasure Signed Japanese Bizen Pottery Chawan Tea Bowl
Located in Studio City, CA
A beautiful, perfectly shaped antique Bizen ware Chawan tea bowl by renowned Japanese master potter/artist Kaneshige Toyo (1896-1967) featuring a unique natural, organic forming ash glaze. Kaneshige is universally considered to be the founder of modern Bizen pottery. In 1956, Kaneshige was certified as a Living National Treasure (Important Intangible Cultural Heritage) for his work in Bizen Ware pottery/ceramics. Bizen Ware is a type of Japanese pottery traditionally from the Bizen province, presently a part of the Okayama prefecture. It is considered one of the Six Ancient Japanese Kilns (along with Echizen ware, Seto ware, Shigaraki ware, Tamba ware, and Tokoname ware). The piece is signed/ sealed on the base with one of Kaneshige's traditional incised marks. A rather engaging and scarce work. Would be a fantastic addition to any Japanese/Asian pottery or Bizen Ware collection or eye-catching stand-alone work in about any setting. Kaneshige's work can be found in numerous prominent collections and museums including: Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum, Seto, Japan Brooklyn Museum, NY Hagi Uragami Museum, Yamaguchi, Japan Honolulu Art Museum, HI Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum, Kasama, Japan Indiana Art...

Longquan Celadon Figurine, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644)
Located in seoul, KR
This sculpture is a Longquan celadon from the Ming Dynasty, renowned for its rich and jade-like green glaze. The figurine is likely a representation of a Buddhist deity or a revered scholar, showcasing the calm aesthetic expressions and graceful contours prevalent during the era. The spectrum of celadon glaze ranges from a dense grey stoneware to a nearly white porcelain texture, with unglazed parts revealing a terracotta brown upon firing. Such pieces were often part of household altars, reflecting the era's spiritual devotion. This artifact would be a treasured exhibit in any museum's Asian art collection, symbolizing both religious reverence and artistic excellence. Period: Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) Region: Longquan, China Medium: Stoneware - Celadon glazed, with a range from heavy grey to almost white porcelain-like material Type: Sculpture Height : 24.5 cm Provenance : Acquired in 1999, Hongkong * Ming Dynasty Longquan Celadon Longquan celadon from the Ming Dynasty typically exhibits a more robust and heavier stoneware body compared to its Song Dynasty predecessors. The Ming era saw an evolution in celadon glaze, achieving a wider spectrum of green hues, from olive to bluish-greens. Ming celadons...
