A pair of Qing dynasty (1636–1912) Sancai glazed ceramic figural roof tiles with rich beautifully aged patina! Dating to the 19th century, wonderfully hand-crafted and painted, sculptural form depicting stylized fish, rising on terracotta clay arched imbrex barrel roof tile. Dimensions: (approx) Each; 13" High, 4.5" Wide, 9" Deep; 8.6lbs total Condition: Great original antique condition with heavy patina over the whole. Significant crazing - craquelure throughout that can only be acquired over long periods of time. Wear consistent with age. We have not cleaned them, leaving them as original, and retaining as much antique character as possible. If you would like them cleaned and polished please let us know after ordering them. History: The Fish, ? (yú) figure is believed to be a symbol of good fortune and longevity. This is an extraordinary bronze sculpture of a Classic male nude by artist Dean Kugler. Attention to detail and complete understanding of the human figure are evident. The figure stands with most of his weight on one foot, contrapposto, and his arm stretched overhead revealing a powerful, muscular physique. With inspiration from Michelangelo's unfinished series of sculptures housed at the Galleria Dell'Acadamia Museum in Florence, displayed in the hall leading to Michelangelo's David sculpture, this figure too is bound within its own material symbolizing the eternal human struggle to free themselves from material trappings. The sculpture is beautifully custom mounted on a stone base. Kugler also incorporates the technical skill of tight rendering with the dynamism of abstraction to create this energy to add additional excitement and intrigue to his aesthetic.   Dean Kugler is a seasoned interdisciplinary artist, painter, and figurative sculptor. His 3D work is featured primarily at Gallery Victor Armendariz in Chicago. In the last three years, Dean has also been featured at Abend Gallery in Denver, The Figge Art Museum, and Bereskin Gallery in Iowa. He has shown at SOFA Chicago in 2017, 2018, and 2019 and participated in ArtPrize in 2013, 2014, and 2015. He sees himself primarily as a sculptor due to the challenges he finds and thrives on within the process. In all its beauty, crudeness, and subtleties, the figure offers infinite opportunities to express feelings and emotions. There is also a physicality to sculpture that requires the work to be experienced through movement in order to reveal more about the piece. Dean has always been drawn to the interactive nature of large-scale sculpture that is available to the public - he loves the idea that his work entices the observer to go beyond what they can see and add tactility to the experience. By using both realism and abstraction, he creates a visual that challenges the viewer to resolve what they are seeing. Therefore, providing a greater connection between the artist and the viewer. Fun and bright pair of white PVC Idyllwild outdoor lounge chairs with Kelly green mesh upholstery and sling designed by Jerry Johnson for Landes Manufacturing Co. They are in good vintage condition. There are signs of yellowing and some scratches to the PVC due to age and outside use. The mesh upholstery has been cleaned but does still show some signs of age including fading. I like them as is but you may prefer to recover. They are priced accordingly. Please see photos. We are selling them as a pair, circa 1960s-1970s. This pair of outdoor lounge chairs is just too cool!! They are called the Idyllwild chair and designed by Jerry Johnson for Landes Manufacturing Co. circa 1968. Johnson was also involved in creating the “new” material called polyvinyl chloride, or PVC plastic which he formed into tubes and slats to produce not only the Idyllwild chair but several other bent tubular-frame designs. This pair has a Kelly-green mesh sling as well as back and seat cushions. They are adorned with white contrasting buttons. I’m going to quote an excerpt from the book California Design by Jo Lauria and Suzanne Baizerman that best describes these chairs: Johnson’s Idyllwild chair and lounge chair and ottoman revealed the versatility of the material and its rich design possibilities. The Idyllwild chair, made of interlocking PVC tubes rolled down at the edges, presented a casual and whimsical form, while the flowing, curved geometries of the tubular-framed lounge chair and ottoman gave a move elegant and elevated presence to outdoor furnishings. Each expressed a boldness that was highly regarded by the exhibition jury. These super cool outdoor chairs will be absolutely perfect on your patio, deck or porch. We are totally in love...
