Curvaceous Contemporary Tubular Sculptural Art Chair 'Frank' by Bradley L Bowers
By Bradley L. Bowers
Located in New York, NY
Bradley Bowers’s 'Frank' hardly resembles a chair at all—there’s no obvious seat, and the tubular frame gives it a psychedelic pool noodle vibe. Yet the New Orleans-based designer obsessed over its ergonomics and optimized the central opening so it’s just big enough to rest your bum without getting stuck. He also streamlined its diameter to be cushy but not bulky. The sense of mystery was intentional: “I don’t want someone to immediately understand how to use it,” Bowers says. “I want them to discover it, then realize how much they like it.” The sinuous, graceful lines of this chair embrace within a soft, yet muscular form. Produced in a limited edition of 12 (+ 1 AP) for Emma Scully Gallery...

Post-Modern Consumer's Rest Chair by Stiletto/Frank Schreiner, Nr. 91/200
By Frank Schreiner
Located in Munster, NRW
If there is any brilliant commentary on the commercialisation of design (and capitalism overall), it is surely the „consumer’s rest“ chair by ‚stiletto‘ studios. ‚stiletto‘, civil name Frank Schreiner (* 1959 in rüsselsheim), is a German postmodern postpunk author-designer of the so called ‚new German design‘. while studying visual communication in berlin he became part of the subcultural eccentric and anarchistic „neoism“ movement – and in 1983 developed his early „masterpiece“: the „consumer’s rest“ chair. It is visually related to the famous wire chairs by Eames and Bertoia (which allegedly reminded his mother of shopping trolleys). Schreiner created the chair from a real supermarket shopping trolley by minimal interventions of cutting and bending. Schreiner became an allround artist and designer from experimental filmmaking to mail art...
