A Very Large Rare Meissen Porcelain 3 Piece Clock & Candelabra Garniture Set
Located in New York, NY
A Very Large and Rare German Ormolu Mounted Meissen Porcelain Three Piece Clock & Candelabra Garniture Set. This impressive set consists of three pieces: a center clock and two candelabras, each adorned with the most intricate and delicate details that have been executed to perfection. Each three armed candelabra is remarkably elaborate with foliate arms that are embellished with gilt-covered beautifully twisted branches and curling leaves on an ornate botanically-inspired base. Embraced by the arms of the candelabras are two 18th Century Meissen Porcelain figures of musical lovers, dressed in brightly detailed traditional clothes. The round clock face, with roman numerals, a white base, and ornate hands is surrounded by a flourish of gorgeous gilt foliage, exuding an air of elegance and refinement. Perched atop the clock is a stunning Meissen Porcelain figurine of a beautiful woman posed in mid-movement, her dress aflutter, and baring her leg as she gazes up at her left hand which is holding a bunch of grapes, while also grasping a wine goblet in her lowered right hand, representing the festivities of the moment. Surrounding the clock and extending down both sides the gilt foliate leads the eye to two cherubs each admiring tiny vases of exquisitely detailed flowers. Below the cherubs, on either side, are four white ceramic pillars...

1750 Venezia Italy Rococo Lacquered Wooden Yellow Box and Jewelry Case
Located in Brescia, IT
This is a magnificent lacquered wooden box, with rich polychrome decoration on a yellow background. In the center of the lid an exotic landscape has been painted with palm, flowers and berries surrounding the figure of the elegant dressed lady. The box has done following the techinque of "arte povera". With this tecnique there are less layers of lacquer and the decoration is made with a paper collage together some lacquered parts. This brighting piece hails from the Mid-18th Century in Venezia and masterfully shows the lacquered Venetian style. This box has a timeless beauty and it is a little jewel to contain jewels. One of the distinctive characteristics of Venetian Baroque and Rococo furniture and decorative objects is the skilful use of lacquers. Lacquer is a natural resin that was very rare in the past, imported from the East and used to create smooth and colored surfaces on furniture, ready to be finely decorated with refined floral designs or exotic animals. Venetian artisans became masters in lacquer processing which required time and patience because it was made with many steps. The Venetian style deeply influenced furniture design throughout Europe, but none reached the Venetian level in terms of beauty. The skillful use of lacquer and carvings defined Venice's unique style during the Rococo period, its Golden Age. The piece is in very good state of maintenance and it is guaranteed original in every parts. The surface was only cleaned not restored and it is original. The little iron key is not working. The wooden yellow lacquered box...

1750 Venezia Italy Green Light Blue Lacquered and Shaped Wooden Box with Flowers
Located in Brescia, IT
This is a refined lacquered and shaped wooden box, with polychrome Chinese figures and fine floral decoration on green and light blue background. The curved shape of the box, on the front, on the sides and of the feet, the rich carving, are the result of the high level craftemanships of the Venetian master cabinetery. This magnificent piece hails from the Mid-18th Century in Venezia and masterfully shows the lacquered Venetian style. Its carefully considered proportions, refined carvings, magnificent color of the lacquer, and premium materials culminate in this wooden box that shows sophistication and grace. Bow Pair of Porcelain Figures, Arlecchino and Columbina, Rococo ca 1758
Located in London, GB
This is a wonderful pair of figures of Arlecchino and Columbina, made by the Bow Porcelain factory in about 1758. These figures formed part of a series of the Commedia dell'Arte, a very popular series of theatrical figures that served as decoration at the dinner table in the 18th Century. The Bow Porcelain Factory was one of the first potteries in Britain to make soft paste porcelain, and most probably the very first to use bone ash, which later got perfected by Josiah Spode to what is now the universally used "bone china". Bow was the main competitor of the Chelsea Porcelain Factory, but where Chelsea made very fine slipcast porcelain, Bow made a different soft paste porcelain that tended to be softer and could be pressed into moulds. Bow served a larger public generally at lower prices. The factory was only in operation between 1743 and 1774, after which the tradition got incorporated into some of the later famous potteries such as Worcester and Derby. These figures were used to adorn the dinner table when dessert was served; groups of figures served to express something about the host, the guests, or to direct the conversation. The Italian Commedia Dell'Arte, a comical form of masked theatre, was very popular in those days and Bow copied many figures of the German Meissen series that were brought out in the decades before. This pair dates from about 1758, which was at the height of Bow's ability to make beautiful figurines often copied from Chelsea or Meissen. The pair is modelled after a Meissen pair by Kaendler. The porcelain is translucent with a beautiful milky glaze - Bow was probably the first pottery using bone in its porcelain recipe. Arlecchino (Harlequin) is playing the bagpipes, dressed in an odd costume of mismatched chintz and playing cards and wearing a funny black trumpet...
