Pair of Cast Iron Warwick Vases
Located in Wormelow, Herefordshire
A very finely cast pair of cast iron models of the renowned Warwick Vase circa 1870. While the original Warwick Vase is a colossal 6ft high, these replicas are scale at just 40cm tall, bringing prestige to an interior placed on a console, column or sideboard. Unusually, each vase has an original, removable enamelled cast iron liner. True to the antique original, these cast iron vases features an egg and dart moulded rim above male and female masks among torches, vine leaves, berries and scrolls in high relief between distinct entwined handles. Each stand on a socle above a plain pedestal base. The original Warwick Vase, often closely associated with the Albani Vase...

Pair of 19th Century Medici Vases, Hand-Painted Porcelain
Located in Lantau, HK
A set of two crater vases from the second quarter of 19th century, century 1825-1830, made of porcelain of France, crafted in the factory of Mortelèque in Ixelles (near Brussels), Belgium and painted by the artist Frédéric Faber (1782-1844). The model of the crater vase is based on the famed Medici crater in the Uffizi in Florence. This type of vase was often reserved for lavish gifts among the aristocracy and royal courts in Europe. At the Salon of 1815, Faber’s work attracted king William I of the Netherlands (1772-1843) who eventually named him the court’s official porcelain painter. Another very similar pair of Medici vases...

Large Glazed Greek Terracotta Vase
Located in Wormelow, Herefordshire
An impressive large Greek style vase, intricately crafted in terracotta and applied with a vibrant treacle glaze. Shaped like a trophy, this mid 19th century urn shares similarities with the marble vase attributed to prominent 2nd century Greek sculptor Sosibios in terms of shape and style, detailed with unique handles shaped like a swans neck. Unlike the Sosibios vase, the heart of this terracotta vase is largely plain showcasing the beautiful tone variation and lustre of the glaze. To the top, the vase is more intricate, detailed with a section of leaves and berries and stands on a socle carved with leaves to match the lower portion of the vase’s body. Thanks to its large scale and beautiful colour, this Greek style terracotta vase makes a striking statement piece placed on a pedestal or at the centre of a large sideboard...

Jacques Louis KESSLER, Pair of Vases Engraved Using the Kessler Process
Located in SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, FR
This pair of vases, crafted in the 19th century, was made using a technique developed by engineer Jacques Louis Kessler in 1855 and patented in 1858. The decoration of these two vases, made of double-layered crystal (blue on the outside and transparent on the inside), was achieved using Kessler’s engraving process. This innovative method utilized alkaline fluorides mixed with acids and a system of stencils, allowing for an immediate contrast between a bright, colored design and a matt background. The Baccarat crystal manufacturer later acquired exclusive rights to this patented process, which brought them widespread acclaim during the 1867 Paris Exhibition. These baluster-shaped vases feature neo-Greek ornamentation, alternating between blue-toned designs and matt crystal. Their clean, elegant lines are accented by several ornamental blue crystal bands. The decoration is composed of three primary scenes: the first depicts two combatants. The second portrays a winged Victory holding a palm in one hand while crowning a resting warrior with laurel in the other; the warrior stands before her. The third depicts three figures: a woman playing the lyre for a king holding a long scepter, with a young ephebe standing behind him. The scenes are separated by depictions of weapon trophies. The iconography draws inspiration from scenes commonly found on ancient Greek vases, while emphasizing the fluidity of the figures’ movements and features. Each vase rests on a circular mount supported by four spheres, with one vase bearing the number “2” engraved under its base. When Baccarat acquired the rights to Kessler’s technique, the company used it to create similar pieces, incorporating this innovative method into its repertoire. At the 1867 Paris Exhibition, Baccarat showcased a celestial blue crystal punch bowl and matching glasses engraved using this process; this set is now housed at the Corning Museum of Glass. The Galerie Marc Maison...

Antique Sèvres Style Porcelain and Gilt Bronze Vase with Marine Subject
Located in London, GB
This beautiful vase was created in France, in the period when Napoleon III was Emperor (1852-1870). It is designed in the style of Sèvres Manufactory porcelain. Sèvres goods are often beautifully hand painted with pastoral and mythological scenes, and marine subjects. These tended to be set within finely parcel gilt and jewelled frames, offset against turquoise ‘bleu celeste’ or navy 'bleu Sèvres' grounds. The porcelain vase is of classical Amphora form, with a slender elongated neck, a large ovoid body with a slightly waisted base, and a splayed foot. The vase is topped by a porcelain crown, which is navy coloured and decorated with gilding, porcelain ‘jewels’ and a gilt bronze (ormolu) pinecone finial. The navy vase...
