About the Item

Elegant geometrically shaped flower vase made of matte beige glazed ceramic with polished central band. Design by Ettore Sottsass for Il Sestante, year 1963. The part below bears the initials "Sottsass, Il Sestante, 582, Italy." The vase is made using the casting technique, which is achieved by pouring a mixture of white clays, water, and fluidizer into a plaster mold. This technique makes it possible to create objects with even complex floor plans and sections and sharp edges; the artifacts are very thin, so they are light and equal in shape. The vase is part of the production resulting from the exclusive 10-year collaboration (1958-1959 to 1969) that Sottsass undertook with the Milan gallery Il Sestante, founded in October 1958 by Marisa Scarzella and Lina Matteucci. The main goal of the gallery was to make limited edition objects by creating connections between designers and companies specializing in craft production.
