About the Item

Mario Bellini for Bitossi / Raymor Rimini Blue Floral Jardiniere This beautiful mid-century modern floral jardiniere was designed by Mario Bellini, made in Italy by Bitossi, and imported by Raymor. The electric blue and green hues really pop with the black accents, making this an incredibly vibrant piece. The Rimini Blue glaze is stunning. The jardiniere is an impressive size and a very collectible piece. This exceptional piece is in very good original vintage condition. Please note the small hairline crack at the base, as shown in photos. Mario Bellini (b. 1935) is an Italian architect and designer. He often designed pieces for Bitossi. Bitossi has a historic identity of Italian manufacturing and is best known for its mid-century designs, notably the "Rimini Blu." The "Bitossi Ceramiche" factory has belonged to the family for five generations. It has remained in the same location in Tuscany since 1921. Bitossi ancestors have been kiln workers, sculptors, painters, and potters in Montelupo since the 1530s. Raymor was an importer that was founded by American entrepreneur Irving Richards. Raymor worked with many prominent designers such as George Nelson, Arthur Umanoff, Ray and Charles Eames and Hans J. Wegner. The company's imports expanded to Denmark , which contributed to the rise of the Scandinavian modern designs in the American market. Measurements are as follows: 12" Diameter x 11" H

About Bitossi (Manufacturer) Like a Fellini movie, the ceramics of this famed Italian company embody a creative spectrum that ranges from the playful and earthy to the high-minded and provocative. Based in Florence, Bitossi Ceramiche draws on craft traditions that date back to the 1500s. The company was incorporated by Guido Bitossi in 1921, though the family began making art pottery in the mid-19th century. In the 1930s, Londi came aboard, bringing with him a mindset that respected time-honored craft, yet looked also to the future. On the one hand, Londi’s perspective fostered the making of Bitossi’s popular whimsical animal figures, hand-shaped and -carved and finished in a rich azure glaze known as “Rimini Blue.” But with his other hand, Londi reached out to thoughtful, experimental designers such as Sottsass. Starting in the 1950s, some 20 years before he founded the Memphis Postmodern design...
