The threads are then arranged in a specific pattern, either straight or intertwined, and fused together by reheating the canes. The resulting glass cane contains multiple colors twisted or woven together. The creation of canne intrecciate requires skill and precision, as the glassmakers need to carefully control the temperature and stretching of the canes to achieve the desired pattern. Glassmaking is more than 4,000 years old. It is believed to have originated in Northern Mesopotamia, where carved glass objects were the result of a series of experiments led by potters or metalworkers.
