"AKARI" Light Sculpture Model 3X (Dead stock) by Isamu Noguchi

About the Item

The light sculptures named "AKARI" were created in 1952 by Isamu Noguchi, inspired by Japan's traditional Gifu lantern craft. Using the natural properties of washi paper to diffuse light and bamboo ribbing for structure, Isamu Noguchi preserved the paper's natural wrinkles and textures, transforming the lamps into sculptures of light. His dedication to traditional craftsmanship reflects Japan's aesthetic values of lightness and impermanence. The AKARI series gained international acclaim, receiving awards like the Japan Good Design Award and inclusion in the MoMA collection, widely cherished in homes and stores globally. This item has never been used and has been stored in its original box. The light has been tested and functions without any issues. While the shade shows some spots due to age, it is free from tears and remains in excellent condition. The design features the iconic red logo with the sun and moon motif, indicating it is an early model. This piece is highly collectible and a wonderful addition to any collection. Box size: W: 295 D: 295 H: 80 (mm)
