Northwest Style: Interior Design and Architecture in the Pacific Northwest Hardc
Located in North Hollywood, CA
Northwest Style: Interior Design and Architecture in the Pacific Northwest Hardcover Book. By Ann Wall Frank Chronicle Books, 1st edition,Oct 1, 1999 - Architecture - San Francisco, 204 pages. With its lush forests, rugged coast, and long rainy season, the Pacific Coast has spawned a style that is informal, organic, and above all eclectic. Northwest Style captures the spirit and diversity of this region's architecture, landscape, and lifestyle by presenting a collection of beautiful and distinctive homes in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. Here, an overlapping of elements and architectural styles is common: A house designed as a tribute to nature makes use of an open floor plan and native materials—both significant elements of early regional Modernism; the decor of a chic urban loft reveals nuances of Japanese design. While the styles vary, a sensitivity to the environment and a desire to accentuate the natural beauty of the region lie at the heart of almost every design. Gorgeous color photographs show these dwellings in their natural settings and highlight architectural and decorative details. Full of inspiring ideas for architects, designers, and home decorators...

Les Cinglés Du Chocolat Hardcover French Edition
Located in North Hollywood, CA
Les cinglés du chocolat Hardcover French Edition. Text in French small Size. Dimensions: 8.5 in x 5.5 in x 0.5 in. Les cinglés du chocolat by Sandra Boynton, Jean-Jacques Brisebarre, Sylvie Girard. Published: 1987. English title: Chocolate: The Consuming Passion. CHOCOLATE continues to delight chocoholics everywhere. Packed with Boynton's famous hippos, bunnies, pigs, and other animals, this gift-perfect book is a whimsical commentary on the individual's relationship to chocolate, its varieties, and its sources. From the several sorts of chocolate connoisseur-including the gourmoo, who eats only milk chocolate-to the several shapes of chocolate itself (bunny, kiss, glove compartment bar), Boynton's apologia for chocolate misses nothing. Myths are chocolate is not fattening, she argues, especially when the caloric expenditure of carrying it home from the store and hiding it from company is factored in. Directions are to remove stains, lick them. Plus, how to grow chocolate at home, a foolproof method for determining if chocolate is in season (does the name of the month contain the letter A, E, or U?), and a recipe for Hippo Pot de Mousse. "Fourteen out of ten people like chocolate," says the artist. This is the only guide for people who like chocolate the way they like to breathe. Résumé in French: Léger, drôle, amusant, le livre illustré avec humour analyse et présente tout ce qui touche de près...

Located in San Francisco, CA
A very rare set of three folio size books on the textile collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum. The books are in linen with gilded letters in Japanese on the spine, each book in its original slip cover, all in very good condition. Some minor stains on one slip cover. The books are printed by Gakken, Tokyo 1980 in English and Japanese. A fabulous reference set for Textile Designers. Volume 1, Middle Ages to Rococo (1200 – 1750). Volume 2, Rococo to Victorian (1750 – 1850). Volume 3, Victorian to Modern (1850 – 1940). Each volume contains approx. 285pp and 250 color illustrations. These volumes are an invaluable record of over 700 masterworks of textile design, housed in the Victoria and Albert Museum. Volume I deals with the gold embroidery for which England was famous in the middle ages, and which is magnificently represented in the Museum. Some of the best examples were acquired in the early years at South Kensington, in the 1860's, but important aquisitions continued in the late 19th and early 20th century and several notable purchases have been made during the past 50 years. This section is followed by sections on embroidery from the 16th century to 1750. The second volume of the series will deal mainly with woven and printed textiles from the Rococo to the early Victorian period, 1750 to 1850. The most significant acquisitions from this period have been made in the last 25 years. It is only recently that is has become possible to make and adequate assessment of the development of British textiles...

Frank Lloyd Wright American Architect of the Twentieth Century Book 1st Ed.1993
Located in North Hollywood, CA
Frank Lloyd Wright American Architect of the Twentieth century 1993. by Robin Langley Sommer. 1st Edition, hardcover book. Frank Lloyd Wright: American Architect for the Twentieth Century Hardcover book. Frank Lloyd Wright is recognized as a dominant figure in the history of modern architecture. His life and revolutionary work is described in this volume filled with more than 180 photographs illustrating 60 of his most-beloved buildings. An impressive, beautifully illustrated volume examines the creations of America's beloved architect, including interior furnishings, stunning private homes, and unique public buildings, with an introduction providing insight into his private life as well as his enduring work. Publisher ? : ? Smithmark Pub Language ? : ? English Item Weight ? : ? 3.6 pounds Dimensions ? : ? 11 x 0.75 x 14.75 inches. Recognized as a dominant figure in the history of modern architecture and the greatest design influenced in the United States during the first half of the twentieth century, Frank Lloyd Wright created, during his long and prolific career, a unique body of work that endures to this day. Beginning in 1889 with the design for his own house in Oak Park, Illinois, and continuing with hundreds of designs for residential, commercial, ecclesiastical, educational and civic structures, Wright's varied architecture is unified only by the underlying organized principles of change and innovation. Revolutionizing residential architecture with the disparate expressions of his simple creed, "out of the ground and into the light! Wright's houses feature a sense of unity and privacy, an a free flow of interior space. Wright sought synthesis in his projects by designing whenever possible, everything from furniture, art glass and lighting fixtures to table lines, carpets and carports. In his Prairies Houses, textile-block structures and Usonian houses, culminating in his masterpiece, Fallingwater, Wright experimented with forms, materials and technology in ever-evolving designs. Wright designed such ambitious commercial masterworks as the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, the Arizona Biltmore Hotel, the S.C. Johnson and Son Administration Building and Research Tower, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum-the alter for which he is perhaps best known. This volume pays tribute to the life and works of frank Lloyd Wright with more than 180 photographs illustrating 60 selected buildings, complemented by a descriptive and incisive text. Classic Superbikes from Around the World Coffee Table Book Hardcover 2003. by Mac. McDiarmid. The cool thing about Mac McDiarmid’s book Classic Superbikes from Around the World. London After Midnight by Marie Coolidge Rask, Photoplay Edition, 1928
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Presented is a photoplay first edition of London After Midnight by Marie Coolidge Rask. This printing was published by Grosset & Dunlap, in New York, in 1928. The book has been beautifully rebound in striking ¼ green leather and cloth boards, with raised bands and gilt stamps and tiles to the spine, and a matching green archival slipcase. The book is illustrated with eight stills from the original silent film. One of the most collectible Grosset & Dunlap photoplay editions, this book was a novelization of the 1927 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer mystery horror film of the same title, co-produced and directed by Tod Browning. The movie starred Lon Chaney in a dual role of Scotland Yard Inspector and vampire; this was his only movie role as a vampire. Due to the success of the film, Marie Coolidge Rask penned the novelization of the movie. Rask worked from Tod Browning’s screenplay as well as the original source material, Browning’s short story "The Hypnotist.” The book was published by Grosset & Dunlap in 1928 and included eight stills from the silent film. The last known copy of the film was destroyed in the 1965 MGM vault fire, along with hundreds of other rare early films, making it one of the most sought-after “lost” silent films. Copies of the film have never surfaced. This 1928 book is therefore important and collectible, as it is one of the few remaining records of the film’s content and storyline. Alexander Grosset and George T...

Jacques Garcia Decorating In The French Style Book by Franck Ferrand 1999
Located in North Hollywood, CA
Jacques Garcia Decorating In The French Style Hardcover Book by Franck Ferrand 1999. Jacques Garcia Decorating In The French Style, is a reference in term of French Decoration Style.Pubished in 2005, this version is the Original publication which was later modified. After designing private interiors for distinguished clients worldwide, Jacques Garcia subsequently set about decorating some of the most popar establishments in Paris - from the Hotel Costes, the Laduree tearoom on the Champs Elysees and the new Fouquet's, to the brasserie La Grande Armee and L'Avenue. But his masterpiece is the Norman chateau Le Champ de Bataille, in which every detail contributes to the formation of a new style: the Garcia style.Jacques Garcia is one of the most fashionable interior designers in France today. Parisians flock to the tables of the exclusive Hotel Costes he designed near the place Vendome, and the famous tea room Laduree on the Champs Elysees to dine and be seen in his elegant and atmospheric fin-de-siecle salons. Garcia counts among his private clients royalty, actors, piticians and businessmen from New York to Beirut, but he is just as much at home refurbishing museums (musee Carnavalet, musee de la Vie Romantique) and palace hotels and casinos in Deauville or Baden-Baden. Neoclassicism, Orientalism and Empire Revival are his decorative landmarks. In deliberate opposition to the post-modern spaces designed by wunderkind Philippe Starck in the early 90s, Garcia is passionate about the past, but his is not a dry historicism. He is a master at mixing texture, pattern and cor. His re-created rooms seem to bear the traces of generations, but are in fact the product of his inspired and irreverent imagination and attention to detail. The magnificent, ongoing restauration and decoration of his Normandy chateau, Champs de Bataille, attracts visitors from the world over and is a monument to his art and creativity.Stunningly illustrated, this sumptuous vume will appeal to anyone interested in interior decoration and provides a privileged look into the exclusive world of French elegance and style. In mid-career, Jacques Garcia invites us to explore an oeuvre in continuous development in which the marvels of the past have been revisited with an eye to the present. A magician of mood, Garcia is expert at keeping spectators spellbound. Here, extensively illustrated, is the first work entirely devoted to this outstanding interior designer. In it we share the joys to be derived from a certain art of living a la francaise, in the timeless tradition of the "grand style". A thirty-year career has made Jacques Garcia a worldwide name in interior design in the French tradition. In Paris, chic crowds flock to his celebrated Hétel Costes and Ladurée tearoom, and to his many fin de siécle brasseries. Garcia's designs also grace the interiors of the Musée Carnavalet and the Musée de la Vie Romantique and his most recent tour de force is the restoration of Paris Hotel Mansart. Garcia's most ambitious project to date, the refurbishment of the Chateau du Champ...

Maharaja's Jewels Table Book by Katherine Prior, Assouline
Located in North Hollywood, CA
The stories of Indian princes and their jewelry and precious stones are brought together in this illustrated narrative tracing the rise and fall of India's leading royal houses through the dramatic fortunes of their crown jewels. Traditionally, precious metals and jewels have been, for Indians rich and poor, a repository of wealth and a status symbol. For the reigning families, jewels also had symbolic and religious significance. Also here are the original drawings by great European jewelers of the pieces they designed for their exotic and demanding clients. The text is both lively and scholarly, drawing from descriptions of such travelers as Marco Polo and Tavernier as well as Sanskrit dramatists extolling the riches of India. The core of this lavishly photographed book is the encounter between Indian princely magnificence and the best of European Jewellery designers in the 20th century when many of the Maharaja's travelled to Europe with trunks filled with traditional Indian jewels and unset stones...
