About the Item

Antique map titled 'Circulus Saxoniae Inferioris (..)'. Map of the Circle of Lower Saxony. The map covers most of present-day northern Germany, as far south as Göttingen, including most of Lower Saxony, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, Saxony-Anhalt & Schleswig-Holstein. Berlin is marked directly above the decorative title cartouche. Artists and Engravers: Johann Baptist Homann (1663-1724) was a mapmaker who founded the famous Homann Heirs publishing company. He lived his entire life in Bavaria, particularly in Nuremberg. Condition: Fair/good, general age-related toning. Few stains, also affecting image. Small splits on folding line. Minor wear, blank verso. Please study image carefully. Date: c.1730 Overall size: 61 x 51.5 cm. Image size: 56 x 47 cm.
