Large Antique Italian Church Carved Gilt Polychrome Tabernacle Altar Niche

A magnificent large rare and most impressive Italian baldachin tabernacle altar niche / altarpiece. circa 1800 Exquisitely hand-crafted in Italy in the early 19th century, this extraordinary one of kind masterpiece originally a prominent altarpiece fixture in a Catholic church, typically displaying a Santo or Jesus altar figure statue inside. Exceptionally executed throughout, parcel gilt polychrome painted, gessoed and carved wood two-piece architectural baldachin form, with dome top vaulted ceiling, raised on eight fluted Corinthian columns, over a shaped platform base with elaborate molded frieze, further raised on integral bracket risers in marbleized faux marble paint decorated finish. Breathtaking visually striking aesthetic, very fine quality craftsmanship, lavishly decorated with extraordinary detail throughout, even the unseen interior of the dome profusely decorated with the most intricate painstaking hand applied 24k gold leaf ornamentation, the exterior in brillant gilded finish, enhanced by beautifully aged warm rich dark patina! Dimensions: (approx) 45" Tall, 26.5" Wide, 26.5" Deep *Additional photos available upon request* Condition Report: A superb museum quality example, in overall very good antique condition, especially considering its 200 years old. Attractive appearance, with nicely aged distressed patina, authentic antique character and charm throughout, including scattered nicks, chips, losses, exposed gesso, fading, acrecetions, possible old touchups and restorations, all expected wear commensurate with age, use, handling and exposure. Overall strong, sturdy, stable, structurally sound. The floral dome painting likely later. Central hole and discoloration where altar figure was once placed. 18th Century Spanish Colonial Church Altar Table now Sideboard Server

A magnificent rustic Spanish Colonial antique, circa 1725, church altar with remarkable patina and detailing. Hand-crafted in the first half of the 18th century, most likely commissioned by the Spanish Empire for use in a Colonial religious Mission, now fashioned with later antique elements and repurposed for use as a sideboard. The scarce Baroque period ecclesiastical architectural church altar presents with a raised gallery shelf back topped with a single board, over a massive, thick pine plank wooden slab top, featuring impressive rich patina, rustic charm and antique character. Mounted over the distinctive architectural trapezoid shaped molded base with rich hand carved and polychrome painted decoration, including the sophisticated original Italian / European inspired trompe-l'œil marbleizing finish, which was a variety of faux painting techniques used only by highly skilled artisans to create the distinctive and varied patterns of marble, in an effort to reproduce the colors, veining and luster of real marble or other building materials. Rising on solid supports enhanced with recessed paneling, smooth rounded corners and edge work and stepped molded trim. Beautiful, nicely aged patina over the whole, highly desirable heavily worn, naturally distressed, chippy paint craquelure finish that has been stabilized to minimize further loss, that does not detect from the aesthetics or functionality, but only adds to the overall elegant warmth and rich historical depth, that can only be acquired over three centuries. Very strong, sturdy, stable. Delivered cleaned, hand waxed, luminous polished French patina finish, ready for immediate use, and many more years of generational enjoyment. Cambridge Scouts 1st Boat Presentation Rowing Oar. The full-length oar is an original traditional presentation rowing oar with gilt calligraphy, the crew's names and weights and the Scouts emblem. The Cambridge Scout Boat Club was formed in 1923 and was successful from the start, they were Head of the River on three occasions. The blade reads:- Cambridge Scouts 1st Boat 1925. Bow. E.C. As the oar is full length (12 foot) shipping can be quite expensive. We have come up with an ingenious way to cut the oar so as to make shipping cheaper, the oar can then be easily reassembled. One of the images shows different images of an oar that has been cut down. It is cut by the leather sleeve so the joint is less visible or obvious. The oar can then be bolted together to make the oar one solid piece. Please do enquire about the different shipping options. The Cambridge Scout Boat Club was formed in 1923 on CC Charlie Wood's advice. It was thought to be the only such club in the country. C T Wood had rowed at Shrewsbury School and was treasurer for '99 rowing club in its early days. 'There are three particular things we owe to C.T.Wood;… in 1923 he urged the formation of the Scout Boat Club, of which Fred Feary was the first Captain, and I a humble non-rowing member'. WTT Archaeology 1978 The club was for Scout Masters, Scouts and Rovers over 16. The club was successful from the start and the first boat sat in the top three for a quarter of time it raced and the top five for half the time. Scouts I reached 3rd position by the end of their fourth years racing and was only out if the top 5 for one year in the next quarter of a century. In some years it put out four boats in the town bumps and four in the Time Race, the only two events for which we have most of the results It was Head of the River on three occasions. Scouts I had the rare distinction of starting from last boat and reaching Head of the River in the town bumps without being bumped.
