Vintage MCM Keller Furniture Oak Valkerie ii Dining Chairs by Edmond J Spence
Located in Topeka, KS
Handsome vintage Mid-Century Modern Keller furniture Valkerie II Line dining or side chairs by Edmond J. Spence, a pair. Comprised of oak frames, blue fabric upholstered seats, and chrome sabots on the front feet. This piece has been attributed based upon archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature, and other materials. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The seats have been newly upholstered in a plain blue/black duck fabric. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, mid-20th century. What a TERRIFIC TWOSOME!!! This is a gorgeous pair of vintage Valkerie II Line dining or side chairs designed by Edmond J. Spence for Keller Furniture. They are comprised of lovely oak frames with slightly angled backs featuring sculpted “boomerang” shaped backs with spindles, straight round tapered front legs with stretchers and chrome sabots on the feet. Their seats have been freshly upholstered in a plain blue/black duck fabric. (We are calling it blue / black as some see it as black and some see it as a deep navy blue.) Did you notice that the handsome chair back and flared back legs are all one piece? Just an awesome design… and super comfortable!! They are mid-century modern with a Danish or Scandinavian modern flair, and they are going to be magnificent seating in your dining or kitchen area, side chairs in your bedroom, or extra seating in your family room. Sometimes you just need a simple little pair of chairs. You know? Just good looking, sturdy, and serviceable chairs. This is just that pair! Edmond J. Spence was an American designer who made a name for himself interpreting Danish Modernism in his own way and blending it with the atomic and organic influences of the mid to late 1950's. Mr. Spence grew up in a family business that manufactured high quality traditional furniture, including ornate, custom carved pieces. He was trained as a designer, and created industrial products, household items including clocks and radios. He began to focus on furniture, and he sensed the trend toward modern design. During the 1950s, Spence drew on Asian and Swedish influences in developing ideas for his own style of modern furniture. He incorporated aspects of Mexican design to create the Continental-American collection tagged “Ageless Furniture-Edmond J. Spence Design.” Manufactured in 1953 by Industria Mueblera. His work has been described as “a little bit Deco, a little tiki, with a heavy atomic & Danish influence.” He won awards and in the early 50’s his work was displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York. And a fun fact, his furniture was used on the set of the “I Love Lucy” show for many years. -Mid 2 Mod. Mr. Spence passed away in 1986. Keller Manufacturing Company was founded in 1885 but Keller Furniture history dates back to 1866 when the “Keller Store” in Corydon Indiana was established. From that time, the operation entered into various businesses, including wagon productions from 1901-1912, running an electrical light plant, manufacturing spokes for farm wagons...

Mid-20th Century MCM Tropitone Outdoor Chairs with Vinyl Straps & Cushions Set 6
Located in Topeka, KS
Wonderful vintage Tropitone outdoor chairs with vinyl straps & cushions, set of 6. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The chair frames and cushions have been pressure washed and professionally cleaned. We have touched up some places on the frames with Krylon ivory gloss and we have ordered new feet for the chairs. The cushions still have some stubborn stains after cleaning and two of the cushions are a slightly different color of white from the rest. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Mid-20th Century. NOTE: If you love this set of 6 outdoor chairs by Tropitone, we have an outdoor table in the style of Tropitone with paper clip style legs and an outdoor table with curved legs by Tropitone listed here for sale if they are still available. We have HALF A DOZEN reasons for you to check these out!! This is a lovely set of six mid-century modern outdoor dining chairs by Tropitone comprised of fabulous weather resistant ivory painted aluminum frames and uv-resistant vinyl back and seat straps. They have their original loose seat cushions featuring blue and white striped weather resistant fabric covers. Two of the chairs are a little more ivory than white, it’s the way we obtained them, And they’re FABULOUS!! We believe that these are an older “vintage” version of the current Khana chair by Tropitone because these have straight backs not curved; tubular arms slightly flared outward not straight; as well as slightly curved legs. It’s a comfortable, sturdy design ready to surround any style outdoor table. And, if you’re in search of outdoor tables as well, check out the many options we have listed here for sale! They are ready to be the new vintage addition to your patio, deck, porch, or out by the pool. They will be awesome seating in your sunroom, at a table by the grill ready for that backyard barbeque, or out on the lanai hosting an outdoor brunch for you and your friends or family!! Tropitone was founded in Sarasota, Florida in 1954 by Burt M. Baker, a retired Lockhead Engineer and executive at Grand Rapids Chair Company. Tropitone served the contract market, including hotels, motels, clubs, and resorts with high performing outdoor patio furniture. In the 1960’s they introduced powder coated aluminum finishes to the industry. Utilizing a multi-step wash process that ensures a lasting finish, Tropitone’s aluminum frames prevail under any environmental conditions. Tropitone also pioneered the technique of double-wrapping vinyl straps around the powder coated aluminum frame for extra durability, which continues today. In 1970’s they established operations in Irvine, California which provided a bi-coastal manufacturing to North American customers. In the 80’s they released “Comfort is Key” cushions and sling seating. Tropitone sling seating has the perfect combination of clean lines, designer fabrics and carefree maintenance. In the 90’s EZ Span and Basta Sole Umbrellas were introduced and in the 2000’s woven furniture and Relax Plus cushion seating was created including replications of rattan or wicker outdoor furniture. Tropitone continued to launch new systems for their furniture from 2000 through 2014 when they celebrated their 60 years in business when they joined forces with Brown Jordan International. High quality manufacturer, versatility, and superior style! This set of six outdoor chairs...

4 DKX-2 Wire Bikini Shell Chairs X Bases Hot Pink Bikinis Eames Herman Miller
Located in Topeka, KS
Fabulous set of four DKX-2 wire bikini shell chairs on X bases with Hot Pink Naugahyde bikini covers designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller. They are in wonderful vintage restored condition overall. The chairs have had some factory weld modifications and one chair has had repairs to welds. All have a fresh coat of black paint. The bikini covers have been cleaned. There may be a couple small nicks in the bikini covers. Please see photos. Circa 1960s. She wore an itsy bitsy teeny wennie not so yellow hot pink bikini………………..oh! Hello! I know. I get carried away. But how could you not with these absolutely over-the-top cool set of four wire shell chairs with hot pink, yes, I said hot pink, bikini covers? They are on solid X bases and we have ordered new boot feet for them. When the Eames designed the wire shell side chair for Herman Miller in the 1950s it was inspired by trays, dress forms, and baskets. Versatility was one of the Eames design edicts so this chair could be configured in multiple ways. It could be purchased on a variety of bases and without any covering, with a full cover, or with this the half cover which has been nick-named….the bikini. This set of four are circa 1960s. Charles Eames was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1907. Ray Kaiser Eames was born in Sacramento, California in 1912. They met at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan and were married in 1941. They moved together to California and continued their design work they began together at Cranbrook. A commission, which they acquired from the government during WWII to produce molded plywood splints and stretchers, launched a career producing iconic Mid-Century Modern furnishings which are still fresh and sought after today. The Eames and their association with Herman Miller were the partnership of the century. If you want to learn more about Charles and Ray please visit Eames Office, the Eames Official website. 6 General Fireproofing Mid Century Machine Age Aluminum Goodform Armchairs
Located in Topeka, KS
Handsome set of 6 Goodform mid-century machine age and industrial style aluminum armchairs by General Fireproofing Company. Comprised of anodized slightly gold colored aluminum frames and upholstered in a woven beige fabric. They are in wonderful vintage condition overall. The aluminum has been cleaned and gone over gently with steel wool and the fabric has been professionally cleaned. That does not mean they are free from signs of age but have a nice patina. You may wish to recover. The aluminum coloration ranges from silver to gold and is individual on each chair. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa 1940s-1960s. Holy cow! We are in love with these awesome Goodform chairs by General Fireproofing!! We have six and they are comprised of anodized brushed aluminum frames and bare a blend of machine age, industrial, mid-century styles. They are anodized a lovely gold color… You heard that right… Gold! Or kind-of “gliver.” A little silvery with a gold tone. Not sure exactly how to describe it, but it’s fabulous!! Two of the chairs are slightly darker gold with less silver and a little extra detail including a V-shaped overlay detail of aluminum on the front curve of the arms, so you can use those two as host and hostess chairs. Currently they are upholstered in a wool-like woven beige fabric, but we don’t think its original; however, it is in good condition and ready to use for a while but…. Wow! Would they ever look fantastic in new leather, vinyl, or maybe mohair! They have a slightly rolled seat back which is a cool detail, the arms are partially upholstered for comfort, and their stretchers and cross bars enhance their industrial look and make them sturdy enough to stand up to a family of toddlers, teenagers, or…elephants whichever you have! Vintage, New and Antique Dining Room Chairs

No matter what your dream dining experience looks like, there is a wide-ranging variety of vintage, new and antique dining room chairs on 1stDibs. Find upholstered dining room chairs, wood dining room chairs and more to outfit any space designated for a good meal, be it in your home or in the great outdoors.

In the early 18th century, most dining room tables and other furniture was designed to look masculine. In America, dining rooms weren’t even much of a concept until the late 1700s, when a space set aside specifically for dining became a part of the construction of homes for the wealthy. Dining room chairs of the era were likely made of walnut or oak. In Europe, neoclassical dining chairs emerged during the 1750s owing to nostalgia for classical antiquity, while the curving chair crests of Queen Anne furniture in the United States preceded the artistically bold seat backs that characterized the Chippendale chairs that followed. If there weren't enough dining chairs at suppertime in the American colonies, men were prioritized and women stood.

In the dining rooms of today, however, there is enough space for everyone to have a seat at the table. Modern styles introduce innovative design choices that play with shape and style. Icons of mid-century modern dining room chairs are plentiful: With its distinctive bentwood back, there is the DCW dining chair by Charles and Ray Eames, while Hans Wegner's timeless classic, the Wishbone chair, remains relevant and elegant decades after its debut. Stefano Giovannoni's White Rabbit dining chairs, in their lovable polyethylene biomorphism, reinvent what dining can look like.

Today's wide range of dining room chairs also means that they can now be styled in different ways, bringing functionality and fun to any sumptuous dining space. No longer do tables have to be accompanied by a matching set of seats. Skillfully mixing and matching colors and designs allows you to showcase your personality without sacrificing the cohesion of a given space.

By furnishing your dining room with cozy chairs — vintage, antique or otherwise — family time can extend far beyond mealtime. The plush upholstery of Victorian-style dining room chairs is perfect for game nights that stretch from dinner to midnight snack. Outdoor tables and dining chairs can also present an excellent opportunity for bonding and eating — what goes better with a delicious meal than fresh air, anyway?

Whether you prefer your chairs streamlined and stackable or ornate and one of a kind, the offerings on 1stDibs will elevate your mealtime and beyond.
