About the Item

A beautiful sofa, model Mayor AJ5, designed by Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen in 1939 and manufactured by &Tradition in Denmark in the 2020s. Made of high quality oak wood with beautiful green fabric upholstery that is soft to the touch. It is made of solid oak and a true statement of handcraft and traditional woodworks. The frame is build of solid beech with elastic belts and HR foam. Upholstery available in fabric or leather. In 1939 Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen won an open competition to design a new town hall, a new library and a theatre in Søllerød (Rudersdal). For the town hall, they designed a wedding room with accompanying furniture – including a sofa for the waiting area for the couple to sit in before getting married. Designed for the solemnity, the appearance of the sofa was shaped with high vertical backs and sides. (Source: &Tradition) The piece has only been used as a showroom model and remains in excellent condition.
