Weight: 43.21g Modern Spain, Portugal and parts of France were once part of the Iberian peninsula- Please note that the earrings are in original condition with the original fittings. Sometimes these earrings are referred as Catalan as they were mainly made in the region at the late 18 cent. Spanish jewellery benefited from the Colombian emerald mines abundant supply by the end of the 18 century. During the eighteenth century, Spain controlled the gold and emerald mines of Colombia and Peru. This wealth of resources resulted in exquisitely fine gem-set gold jewelry. Parures of emeralds, necklaces, stomachers, rings, earrings, etc. were plentiful at the court of Spain. A long gold earring...

It serves as a testament to the enduring allure of Greek mythology and history, making it a truly treasured accessory for those who appreciate the elegance and significance of the past. To complete the necklace, the framed pendant hangs gracefully on a 20-inch solid belcher chain. The choice of a belcher chain represents both style and durability, making it the perfect complement to the sterling silver and the rich history it carries. This thoughtful combination showcases the designers' attention to detail and their commitment to creating pieces that are not only visually stunning but also timeless in their quality. Antique Georgian Pinchbeck Chandelier Torpedo Earrings
Located in Stamford, CT
A magnificent example of history, these long beautifully granulated chandelier earrings are set with amethysts from early c. 1790 and were made in the United Kingdom. They are light on the ear and completely original other than the shepherd hooks which are easier to insert rather than the back to front hooks.. Antique earrings are dear and rare to find in original condition, as many have lost the top section. These earrings superb quality, decorated with tiny orbs of gold ( granulation) applied on the long stem part. Father time knows how granulation adhered without glue or solder. The top and lowest section are engraved in repousse, the method of engraving where the gold sheet is pushed out into a design from the back creating volume and dimension. Floral designs cover the bottom inch of the earrings. The magical secret of Pinchbeck is that no expertise was spared in its creation, rather it took a master of alchemy and ingenuity to create the gold metal formula. Pinchbeck was that alchemist. He was a British Watchmaker. He concentrated on making the first fine gold metal that was not actually gold but became as valuable. He and his son were the only living to know the formula, a marvelous gold metal that never tarnishes, is a comfortable weight and is strong and durable. It became sought after by royalty and jewelry lovers throughout the world. Made only for a short period, it is valuable, desirable and precious. Later gold filled and gold plated jewelry does not match the beauty. Pinchbeck jewelry...

Diamond Rings, Luxury Watches and Other Antique and Vintage Fine Jewelry and Estate Jewelry on 1stDibs

Our love for diamond rings, luxury watches and other antique and vintage fine jewelry and estate jewelry goes back thousands of years.

Jewelry has long been a symbol of spiritual strength, wealth or power and, of course, a means of personal expression. While materials and processes employed by the world’s most popular jewelry housesTiffany & Co., Cartier, BVLGARI and others — have evolved over time, humans still gravitate toward many of the same accessories that our ancestors wore.

Ancient Egyptians were often hard at work designing jewelry and adorning themselves with an array of necklaces, rings and other items, and nearly every Egyptian, rich or poor, was buried with some kind of jewelry. When King Tut’s burial chamber was excavated, it revealed a sense of style that inspired Art Deco jewelry designs.

Brooches and pins remain essentials in our jewelry boxes, although we no longer require them to fasten our garments, as was once their primary use. Rings, which have always been signifiers of eternity, still serve as romantic gifts and tokens of affection. Engagement rings are still widely recognized as symbols of love and commitment — and as it can be difficult to choose the right one, explore our buying guides for a close look at antique engagement ringsArt Deco engagement rings and vintage engagement rings. [Fun fact: It wasn’t until the 14th century that we learned how to effectively cut diamonds, a critical step in revealing the stone’s brilliance.]

Hoop earrings are imbued with symbolism and cultural significance for many, and on view in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Ancient Near Eastern Art Gallery is a pair of simple gold hoops from Mesopotamia dating to between 2600 and 2500 B.C. We’ve even created our own new, sacred symbols — the Cartier Love bracelet, for example, with its distinctive locking mechanism, is an understated and modernist symbol of love’s promise (with its own captivating history to boot). And, crafted by French jeweler Jacques Arpels of Van Cleef & Arpels, the Magic Alhambra necklace channels luck for the wearer with its universally adored design, which is informed by four-leaf clovers, a plant synonymous with good fortune.

Whether it’s our sentimental charm jewelry, costume jewelry, chunky retro bracelets or minimalist earrings created by the likes of contemporary designers WHITE/SPACE and Agmes, luxurious jewels can elevate any outfit, regardless of your personal style.
